    New Club Name

Question; Do you think that the Swans should consider a name change ? and if so do you have a better suggestion ?

I think that AFL is the greatest sport on earth but does our club have the best name. In the League dominated state of NSW, where football is tough, maybe we need a strong, macho name to suit the game. After all we are not a lawn bowls club or a ping pong club. Men are men and the girls are glad.

Is the name Swans better suited to Fairy tales, Womans Weekly or men in tights. When you see other clubs like Eagles, Tigers, Bombers, Demons, are we looking a bit limp wristed, girly, whimps.

My idea is 'The Sydney Reds'.
The fans would be 'The Red Army'.

This fits well with the club colours as well. What do you think ?

Reds sounds a little too Queensland for mine.

Also, Tiger and Eagles are not benefitied in recent times by their macho mascots.

The Swans are fine. I can identify with them just fine.

To name a team after a colour hardly signals beefy intentions.

    Nice idea though.

It nearly happened in 94/95. Can't recall if a name was chosen, but we were going to be playing in NSW blue

A swan is an elegant, graceful beast that can get very aggressive when provoked.

The name does the job for me.

AnniRed doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

I'm happy with the name Swans. Can't we keep some traditions?

The marketing gurus recommended "Dolphins" from memory and to change our colours to Aqua.

Thank god that idea was thrown out, but at that stage, the support for the swans was nowhere to be seen and would have been pushed through with little fight if they wanted it.

I do love the tradition and the otherness of the name Swans, but I do think that is definatley not a plus when it comes to marketing or winning converts or insinuating agression.

I thought they wanted to call us the Sydney Redbacks.

Is it time for the bi-yearly "lets change our name to something meaner" thread already????

A Swan in the UK killed a Jack Russell Swimming near its young a month or so back.
