These taoist masters involved in this ritual, tell me that the different characters in the words used as the name for a company logo or title, has profound effects on the destiny of the thing so named.
Now I am not an expert on any of this, but the thought did cross my mind after reading that article, that the team we all follow had a fair bit of premeirship success under the name of the "bloods" but no success with the name "Swans" .... So maybe it is a numerology type thing, is all I am suggesting.
I mean it has been a long time. What would happen if we didn't win one for say 20 years ?
Would you consider changing it then ?
What if after another 20 years of no premeirships, the club decided to experiment with a name change for one year ? What if the "BLOODS" then won the premeirship that year ?? would you be prapered to think about it some more or is it just always going to be the "SWANS" forever no matter what the out come ???

WHAT THE F$@#$@% are you nuts?? :P i mean sorry but what the hell ???? how in the name of buggery would the name change our perfomance?? are you telling me the sydney bloods would of won a premiership in 1996 for instance?? the name blood would of made the kangas fall over for us??

it not going to affect how the team plays i mean look at the fitzroy LIONS

LIONS are pretty powerful but fitzroy were rubbish for years..

its swans ... its a cool name it goes with sydney fits on the logo its the history and heritage of a proud club.... to change it would be stupid it looses all links with the past ..... and i dont see why we want to do that?
Theres not much left to say

Personally, I think numerology, astrology and other such stuff is rubbish. Why should it matter what letters in names add up to? Why should a bunch of rocks swirling around in space tell me what to do? It's all a scam.
But, Thunder Shaker .. are we all not made up .. of stardust??

The atoms in our bodies were forged in the fires of dying stars, but that does not mean the stars control our destinies. The atoms in our bodies come to us by way of the food we eat, but does that mean we can predict the future by scrutinising the vegetable aisle at the supermarket?

            Now THERE's a thought....

            1. Write new-age book on fortune telling by looking at food.
            2. Market to gullible new age types

                New Name

It's interesting to note that the club name question just keeps coming up. This tells me that there are a heck of a lot of supporters unhappy with the name.

It certainly could affect performance if a new name attracts more supporters away from other football codes and sports. If you have 80,000 Sydney fans cheering for the team instead of 30.000 at a match. I'd like to see that. More fans means greater exposure in the media. At the moment it seems NRL and Rugby get far too much coverage in NSW than they deserve. AFL IS the true national sport.

History is a funny thing, The name 'Swans' was not there at the start. Someone made history by changing the name. Lets make history again and give Sydneysiders a chance to give OUR team a name chosen by Sydney. It's not a Melbourne club any more. Maybe the club could run a contest to find a new name with a life membership as the prize.

I don't believe existing fans will stop being a supporter just because of a name change. At the moment the official name is The Sydney Australian Football Club. Go The Sydney Reds.

I don't know about the swans image not being ferocious.

There is a park in Perth, can't remeber the name, but is is well known for its swans. As soon as you get outta the car they swarm around and start pecking at you, assuming you have food.

Now one or two of these feathered fiends makes you nervous, but when you have a 100 or so they scare the crap out've you.

Worse than 1 Magpie swooping on you once a year. (with no teeth!! ).
I'd even feel safer in a herd of Roos, than a flock of Swans.

Whether the odds be graet or be small, Bloods will go nin and win overall. Nup... just does'nt sound right.

By the way if anyone is interested in how the name Swans came about, apparently back in the Foreign Legion days (1932-35) South had so many WA players in their side, that the local sports paper The Sporting Globe (now theres a footy icon) nick named the team the Swans. Believe it or not the name does not have its origins from the old Lake Oval ground at Albert Park.

as much as I enjoy footyheads slant on things at times, this post and yours from a few days ago does not mean there are "A heck of a lot" unhappy supporters out there.

I don't think people are unhappy, I just think that they need to be a bit Shook up !
This club has excepted mediocrity for too long. What ever the cause no premeirships in 20 plus years in Sydney is not good enough. Finishing in the bottom of the 8 is not good enough.
                        Demand the improvment people.

well i was thinking it takes time, let the side develop and then mid post i realised it should of happened by now!!!!

i guess we have to draw a line in the sand and start to develop a team now... i can see the foundations of a premiership starting

I also don't think a change inperformace will happen due to us changing our name.

"Hang on I like this new name better so I'll play better now" ???
