A game plan that relies on winning through low scoring is very dangerous as just a little bit of bad luck can be costly. For example a couple of free kicks to Geelong and a couple of snaps when a player gets a little bit of space or a fortunate bounce.

Sure we are mssing Davis and Schneider, but we should still be able to kick more goals.
IMO, the midfield isn't kicking enough goals. Williams has only kicked 8 and Maxfield 5 which would be down from their usual output in previous seasons. Guys like Fosdike and Crouch aren't big goalkickers either. Compare this to Brisbane who have Aker leading their goalkicking before last night or Melbourne who have Bruce and Green pushing up to kick important goals.

It's a poor loss - a game we should have won.

Nothing to take out of it.

If the ugly wins were good because they were wins, this is bad because it is a loss. No point in looking for positives - it's a loss, and as people have been saying all that matters is a win or a loss.

Our crap game plan (if you can call it that) has fallen apart against a half-decent side.
NMW that really is poor form coming from you. Previously you were encouraging the game plan roosy implemented and encouraging teams to play thier style against us. Whether it be free flowing running play, or hard at it stoppages. So what, we Lost. Yeah I'm pissed off too, but it wasn't our gameplan, it was just our inability to win. Geelong played a great game. Give them some credit please. It was a close game that we just couldn't pull off on this occasion. Give our players some credit too please. Geelong were the better team ON THE DAY.

edit: BTW NMW I like your style. Any chance of you getting to the freo syd game next week? I'll buy you a beeer. Or a Jamiesons

I thought we had a game plan that could flip between running and closing it up. That would have been great. However, it doesn't appear that we can get the running and high-scoring game going again. Therefore we are reliant on the slow game, which is not going to win us much.

To a large degree yes, but what is our game plan? We seem to lack structure and purpose going forward.

I definitely agree there. Even taking into account the umpires, Geelong were the more purposeful team. I thought we controlled the game for longer periods, but were inefficient when we did. When Geelong controlled the game, they were a bit slicker and a bit more direct, and more decisive.

No - not good. Just 'half decent' yet we were unable to beat them.

It shows that our scrappy wins over some very ordinary sides is a good indication of where we are this year. We are barely middle of the table.
            I do agree with this.

              Silly, silly comment.

O'Loughlin did a lot of running, but he's there to score goals and didn't do it. Bazza was relatively ordinary - dropped at least one mark he should have taken and missed some goals. O'Keefe was magnificent. Him and B1 were the only ones vying for BOG IMO. No-one else had much of a (positive) effect on the game.

I know Geelong are finals material, I know they haven't been beaten at Skilled, but we lost a game we should have won today. Bad kicking in the first quarter and a lapse in the last half of the 3rd quarter won them the game (with the help of some more than dubious umpiring, but I always feel like it's a bit of a cop-out to blame the umps).

Skill errors are pretty much unforgivable at this stage of the season, if you ask me. Two missed handballs consecutively at one stage (they weren't long ones either) when we were under no pressure highlighted a problem we had all day. Combine this with poor decision making (how many time can we sell someone into trouble using a handball when a kick would be more effective?) and we've got trouble.

Really, really disappointed with the game, because it was there for us to win, and we stuffed up. Too many experienced players had no effect (or an adverse one) on the game Kirk, Maxfield, B2, O'Loughlin, Goodes, Fosdike, and young guys like Ablett, McVeigh and Schneider were quiet as well.
My thoughts exactly. And it is why I am so angry

Yeah I know what you are saying in all points. And I agree. I am just so disappointed in todays effort. But I do reiterate, we were beaten by the better team ON THE DAY. It's unfortunant, but that's the facts. Geelong had too many winners on our fielded 22. It's a sad reality
