    Swans 7

Thats where I think we will end up. Not good enough really.
But enough to keep the wolf from the door.
    Whats new ???

My biggest fear for this year has been one of these mediocre finishes where we get crap all from the season and crap all from the draft.

    Happens far too often.

Oh well, still hoping we finish 6th, get a home final, and get some type of run on....

I could handle the current position better if our losses were worse.

I would say the games against Brisbane, Melbourne, Richmond and todays against geelong, we were in positions where we should of won

if we had of we could of been 13 and 3 and on top of the ladder.....
Theres not much left to say

If this happens again, then the pressure really builds on Roos, cos we need (and he needs) to break the pattern.
So if we finish say 9- 6 this year and then any where from 6 - 12 next year, then suddenly 2006 is a crunch year for the club in which we have much more to loose than gain.
The Swans need top 4 performances and/or premeirships right now. or at the latest in 2005 2006.
If not by then then this culture of mediocrity will have done untold damage to the spirit and self beliefe built up in the club over the last 9 years.

I think some teams who have lost to us can say the same thing though - including Geelong - who would be one game from the Top 4 if they had gotten over us.

It has been a weird year for this team. Not sure what I think about us at the moment.

We lose to Brisbane by 3 - Beat St.Kilda - Lose to Richmond - Have to win a thriller against Hawthorn. Scary mix of results.

any chance of top 4 is gone now, and therefore a realistic shot at the flag. I think we should easily finish 5th or 6th (which are essentially the same), so 1 home final, then a lot of luck required.

To do that, we will need to beat Essendon and Fremantle in a pair of classic 8-point games.

Mediocre? Not really - we're making the finals regularly now. We've made the finals six times in the last eight seasons, and that's more than we've managed in the previous 50 seasons. We have not ended a season with a percentage below 100 since 1994.

Would you rather be like the Tigers (only two or three finals appearances in the last 20 years)?

Top 4? I think it was always a question of whether we could maintain our position in the top 8, which looks to be a real struggle looking at the draw coming up.

Sometimes I yearn for the early nineties when I could just enjoy the Swans without fear of finals dissapointment lol. I knew we weren't going to be winning the premiership, so I wasn't living with the fear of failure. If that makes sense.

We were just plain bad then, and any win was worth a week long celebration.

The last decade or so has turned me into the biggest football stresshead. Just win me a damn premiership Swannies

The one thing Richmond and Hawthorn can possibly live in at the moment is hope I guess. Sometimes it is nicer to have that sooner than later.

I hate to say this but I think we are a real chance of missing the 8 if we don't start playing a full four quarters of football we are a real chance of losing all of our remainig games even the Richmond game as it will be Frawleys last game(you know all the emotional stuff). I really hope not and will be at Subi screaming the house down trying to get the boys over the line

Hope to still finish 5 or 6 - bit of hope there.
But feel Roos is doing top job - and hope that Collis is realising this.
To me it is the players that need to execute the game plan and maybe a change of players in some areas for 2005.
                      Love those Swans

Thats what bottom of the top 8 is, the middle of the competition IE mediocre !
And yes ! at least then we could look forward to the draft and the next couple of years with some real hope. As it is we can look forward to another performance prebabley somwhere near or around the bottom half of the final eight. And even then some people here and elsewhere withinthe Swans will be happy with that Yuk it makes me want to spew !
This tem needs to be culled. Roos has been promising it but so far has not done it, he has played the kids - good now he has to cut those who can't improve our team acheivments, and he has to get players into the club who can.

Six times in the past eight seasons sure, but remember that more teams make it into finals these days than in the past. Of those six times, one has been 6th, one 7th and one 8th. The 6th finish is equivalent to about 5th in the old system, which tended to mean you get booted out of finals quickly. The 7th and 8th would probably not have made finals (maybe 7th would have barely scraped into 5th place).

Of the other three, we have won 4 finals, 3 of which were at the SCG, and we have lost three.

It's not a great record, but granted it is better than what we have had for most of the past 50+ years.

However, it all depends on what you want to compare it to. Against our previous performance, it doesn't mean a lot. Against successful sides, it's still a fairly ordinary record.

Would you rather be like the Tigers (only two or three finals appearances in the last 20 years)?
At least they have won a few GFs in living memory!

Mediocrity is our problem and it is a waste of time. We get no high picks and cannot get quality players. Without these quality players we will never improve. The only way to be good is to be bad. Hawthorn will benefit hugely from this year and what will we get - nothing. St Kilda, Freo and eve n Melbourne will soon be the best teams as they have the best players as a result of consistently high picks. We need to come last with less than 5and a half wins for 2 years in a row. But unfortunately with the fickle Sydney public they won't do this. I am sick of being mid table.

                              I hate feeling this way....

There is absolutely no point finishing the bottom of the 8. We are just going to end up being a hurdle the real contenders have to win against.
Our win last year against Port was terrific, we showed what we are made of and can do when we are playing with heart and determination. It seems to have gone downhill since then.

I love the Swans and would do anything to see them win a flag, but I hate being the team that 'makes up the numbers'.
