Having a look at the games we have left for the season and thinking about the crap-ugly[whatever u want to call it]footy we are playing at the moment,is there anyone else like myself starting to think that if theres not some sort of miraculous turnaround we could a:\Just make the finals and then be put out in the first week or even b:\Not make the finals at all,i really dont see any easy games in there.
could we miss finals

We could definitely miss finals. All games left could be difficult, and we could potentially lose all of them (or win all of them or somewhere inbetween - who knows with us). A win yesterday would just about have locked up a finals spot, whereas now we are on the cusp with a few other teams.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

I hope we do not make the finals, as I do not beleive we are anywhere near Brisbanes level , despite evry one saying we are the only team who can beat them. I do not beleive that this cuurent Swans team can beat the lions. We have not yet done it and there is no indication that we can despite the close loss in round 1. Everyone is confusing 2003 with2004. Wake up peoples.
I want us to not make the finals, which will get us the best draft picks we can and also will shock a few and make us realise that somthing substantial has to be done, compared to this bloody shifting the deck chairs around on the Titanic crap that has been a part of the Swans culture for far too many years.Last edited by footyhead; 19 July 2004, 06:24 PM.Comment

If you would rather sit back and watch the September action than have your team by a part of it then you are an idiot..anything can happen come September.Adam Goodes: Rising Star 99, Brownlow 2003, 2006

I don't believe you people..we lose to Geelong who are undefeated at home this season and you are talking about how you think we wont win any finals so it's better to not EVEN TRY????
BRISBANE LOST TO GEELONG TOO BY MORE THAN US SO MAYBE THEY SHOULDN'T BOTHER MAKING THE FINALS EITHERAdam Goodes: Rising Star 99, Brownlow 2003, 2006

Finals game are not a waste of time even if you win, lose or draw.
Just ask Fremantle about their first final last year, better team than SnDon, playing at home and they were smashed.
Why?
Because none of them had any experience at all about playing in finals, let alone winning one.
The more games our young guys play (McVeigh, Bevan, Scheinder, Buchanen etc) the better they will be when we go into a finals series in 1st/2nd spot and a legimate chance to walk away with the holy grail.
Yes we may not get far this year, but look outside the square and see what positive developments any final would have on these kids.

On a selfish note I'm bummed that my hope of playing brissie at the Gabba in the first weekend of finals is gone now (I'll prolly be up in Qld that weekend d'oh!) and part of me is praying we don't get a home final in week one because I don't want to miss one!
But in all seriousness, if a home final is what we need to get a bit more experience and hopefully a win happening, good stuff. If on the other hand we finish 7th or 8th I think the away final will also be highly beneficial - if in Melbourne, it'll be a good turnout of red and white fans you'd assume, if elsewhere, it's more experience in hostile environments, which for mine, a few of the guys still don't seem so comfortable with - many seem to get stage fright when confronted with hostile grounds.
Regardless, another finals game = 22more games of finals experience in the team, which can never be a bad thing imho.Comment

geez if only for the last 6 minutes yesterday we could of won!!! apart from the port game we havent been destroyed we arent that bad... we are better than fremantle essendon and the kangaroos and deserve a finals spot!Theres not much left to sayComment

The way i see it, is that there is a lot of 50/50 games in there and if we win half of those and a couple we should win then we should scrape in. We've got a few home games left so anythings posible, we havn't played that badly."Red and White for blood cells, Red and White for wine."

The Geelong loss was not a bad one. We didn't get hammered, we gained the lead at least half a dozen times, and despite some relatively ugly patches of play the game itself was decent. We could have won but didn't.
We lost to Geelong, so we cannot finish top four this year. It's no great loss, because this will place us in the sudden-death half of the finals draw and that will give our youngsters a different kind of finals experience."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

Don't think we'll miss the finals - I think the committment in the team is enough to ensure will win 3-4 games of the ones remaining. Top 4 is probably gone - my hope now is that we get 5th-6th and that home elimination final that was so cruelly robbed back in 2001 by a certain Bomber
IMO it's still important to make the 8 this year - if we don't we run the risk of turning into another Melbourne - we haven't made the finals in an even year since 1998, and haven't missed the 8 in an odd year since then! Plus the finals experience is always valuable.Comment

What's the point of playing finals footy is you are just making up the numbers. I hate finals and final systems. Its pathetic and stupid, waste of time. Such an American way to do things.
Does it really reward a team that finishes 8th? No it doesn't, just sets them up for heart break. If anything i would rather a system of 1st wins the comp and then to keep the fans happy they have 1 vs 2.
None of this pathetic Americana finals system. I hate it.
And no i hope we don't make the finals. Waste of bloody time as we won't get far. And those overly optimistic fans get a grip and look at the list and the brand of footy we are playing atm.
Do you think we can beat the likes of Port and the lions for the the flag? Hell no.
Sorry for the ramblings.Comment
