I've been thinking and, as someone else pointed out, Benny sometimes is the extra man in defence. This is where I hate to see him. Very brave, yes, but turnovers in this area of the ground really hurt. Also this is where we SHOULD be building our attacks from and Aussie Jones he ain't.

I would like to see him played as number one tagger. His tackling stats are fantastic and it would free Kirk up (officially) to be a creative midfielder. For example on Saturday I would prefer to have seen Benny play on Ling and leave Geelong's number 1 tagger to pick up Kirk.

The "spare man" or "Nathan Buckley back of the pack distributor" role should be played by C. Bolton or Tiger...both of whom are far better users of the ball (particularly by foot) than Benny.

I don't agree that C.Bolton is a better disposer by foot. Wouldn't swap him, but I feel his disposal is the weak part of his game. Clearly.

I hold my breath every time he has to pass it any further than 20 metres.

I agree on C Bolton - I don't have a lot of confidence in his passing (well not as much as some others).

I would still like to see Mathews play in the centre. He knows how to get the ball and if he can keep his disposal tight he could distribute to the running players well.

I agree, I always feel like I am bagging Benny but I have a lot of time for his ability to find the ball... even with handball receives you still need to read the play well enough to get into a position to actually receive the ball... my main issue is his disposal over mid-long range distance.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Couldnt agree more there,i seem to remember Benny doing a great stopping job on Hird more than once, and i think he is a player who probably thrives on playing on and trying to stop the big names and maybe with the great success of Kirky and Crouch as stoppers is only getting the 3rd or 4th tagging job.
