Not an option this year, with the Swans still very much finals contenders; and they made the prelim final last year.
But seriously, what team in their right mind would deliberately lose? Even in Sydney's last bad year in 2002, it was so much better that they finished with a wet sail and building confidence for the new year ahead - one gun 17-year-old isn't going to single-handedly turn around a struggling club with a losing mentality.

Err .. umm .. without him - as he's just done his hammy!

It's posting a thread that resembles yet another thread you'd posted of the same subject matter.

Melbourne's consistent yo-yo-ing is a simple illustration of why the priority pick system is a joke. It is not as if either McLean or Sylvia is the reason why they have improved so much this year, to the point where they are probably equal favourites with the Power to play off against the Lions in the GF.

As for the general argument about tanking to get good players, consider where the Swans have found some of their better players in recent years

            Bevan
            Kirk
            Kennelly
            Goodes
            Schneider
            O'Keefe

No question that Judd and Riewoldt will be superb players, but is it clear cut that Goddard, Johnstone, Cooney, Didak, Fosdike, Sylvia (to name just a few recent top three or four picks) are or will be better than James Kelly, Nick Dal Santo, Byron Schammer, Sammy Mitchell, Nick Stevens, Richard Hadley, Brent Reilly, Jared Rivers (to name just a handful of very promising young to youngish players chosen with picks from 14 or later - some significantly later)?

The notion that you can only build a talented squad with access to several top 5 draft picks is a complete fallacy.
