Here's an article in today's Melbourne Age about Stuart Maxfield and the captaincy of the Swans.

More importantly (arguably) that story was on the 2nd page of the SMH sports section today.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I think it is wasteful to have a captain stay on during their last year as captain.
Think it is much more valuable to have Maxfielf co captain with our next in line to ease him in.

Obviously Maxfield had been around long enough so it wasn't required when Kelly left, but if the next bloke is one of our younger players, I can see the benefit in having Maxfield in the team with him.

Having said that, I'd say that he will captain next year without a doubt.

If you accept what is in that article, I'd say it's pretty much a given that Stuey will be captain next year. Ireland's comment about the quality of his leadership and the impact he has around the club pretty much says it. And there is no standout candidate to take over so why would they change?

Does that mean we can't trade him?

Anyhow, in the real world, Stu is a moral to be captain next year.

Didnt know i was living in an unreal world but im glad youve told me,i think Maxfield wont be captain for the very reasons listed above,he will be better value in his last year without the pressures of the captaincy, and will be a great sounding board and mentor for any other captain in their first year.

As far as i know Stuey is our only 300 gamer so i reakon it would be a smart move to keep the old head captain.

Roos finished his career at Sydney as a 300 gamer.
