I forgot we were that bad

    (possible spoiler TFS)

    Spoiler space

The big question on Marstermind was which team won the wooden spoon 3 consecutive years between 92-94. I had a big argument with Mum she was saying the Swans, I said no way.

    How quick you forget!

    I haven't forgotten.

Any win was a great day!

Seemed like eternity when we were down there

        Win?

A good quarter was a cause for celebration!

A few whingers recently claimed that they couldn't bear to watch the Swans grinding out a win. It doesn't seem that long ago to me when they were so bad they were virtually unwatchable week, after week, after week . . . .

It was very hard to forget those times.

1992 - after eight rounds, the Swans and Eagles were separated by percentage in the middle of the ladder with 3 wins, 1 draw, 3 losses and 1 bye each. The Swans didn't win another game for the rest of the season to start the big losing streak, and the Eagles went on to win their first flag. That year, the Swans beat the Eagles by 3 points at the SCG in round 2.

1993 - The Swans worst ever season. Loss after loss piled up, and Buckenara was sacked mid-season. Barassi took over as coach and had a lot of work to do. The 40-point win over Melbourne felt so good, but it was the Swans' only win for the year.

1994 - Unlike 1993 the Swans played a lot better. Sides that underestimated the Swans did so at their peril - the Swans' 4 wins for the season included wins over finalists Carlton and Melbourne. Although the Swans collected the wooden spoon again, the Swans form was good and I felt optimistic at the end of the season that 1995 would be a better year.

Postscript 1995 - The Swans finished 12th, with 8 wins and a percentage over 100, and beat Collingwood in round 22 to deny the Magpies an appearance in the finals.

And yet we still watched loyally. I'm a glutton for punishment

That was a beautiful moment in Swans history wasn't it!!!

IIRC, the Bears go in for their first(?) finals appearance coz of that win.

                Hi Guys

I don't recall the Swans winning the wooden spoon in those years

How can I find out that information ?

I thought that the Saints were worse than us those 3 years

As far as I remember back then we were really bad but I don't think that we ever won the wooden spoon in any of those years

                Regards Dazz

                    Hi Guys

                    Thanks for that information

If we were that bad and got priority draft picks then why the hell did we not win the flag 3 years running like Brisbane did

I reckon the reason why we did not win a grand final when we got those priority draft picks for 3 years running was because of bad draft choices

We had the number one draft pick for 3 years running and we traded them away for rubbish

I guess we need to finish near the bottom of the ladder again to get draft picks and then we might win a flag

                    Regards Dazz

                          Hi Guys

We were bloody awful in those years as well

We won a combined total of 9 games in 3 years

                          That is pathetic

Things have improved but we are not in the top 4 and won't be for some time to come

When will we win a flag ? The year 2060

                          Regards Dazz

No. The AFL waited for Fitzroy to die, then introduced priority picks in 1997.

Because we traded a few picks away, and we had trouble holding on to the players that we drafted with early picks. To name just 3: Shannon Grant, Darren Gaspar, Anthony Rocca

We also recruited Plugger and Paul Roos at the end of 94. Nobody can deny the value we got out of these two.
