Well it was only the reserved seating that was sold out.

And we would have packed out the SCG with the Collingwood games (last year and this), the Essendon game a couple of years back, and the PF last year.

It probably was close to a sell-out. There were very few seats in the general entry area and both the Members' and Ladies' Stands looked pretty full. Most of the empty seats were in the O'Reilly, Churchill and MA Noble Stands, which are predominantly reserved seats for Swans members.

With the game up against a Wallabies test (on TV) and with few other than the faithful thinking the Swans had a chance, 35,000 was a pretty decent turnout.

And damn the noise we made was very satisfying... God I love a 35,000+ SCG for atmosphere. Still has TS hands down unless the game draws 70,000+

A "sell out" (in modern usage) doesn't necessarily mean that all seats will actually be occupied; it just means that the club has received the maximum amount possible for the sale of all the seats.

There are only about 10,000 seats available "for sale" at the SCG for Swans games, with approx 10,000 SCG members and 20,000 Swans members tickets already allocated (and accounted/paid for) for each game. In fact almost every Swans game at the SCG is close to a "sell out" these days; or within a few thousand in any case.

There will always be a minimum of 20-25% of members who don't show up for a particular game, for a myriad of reasons (other commitments, sickness, clash of events, bad weather, poor form of the side etc); the situation is similar at most grounds.

I was certainly not dissapointed, the atmosphere was intense for most of the game. One of the very best games I have watched at the SCG and one of the most revved up crowds. A HUGE night!

Do we have too much reserved seating for Swans members?

Ever since they allocated all but about 10,000 seats for reserved seating, I dont think the SCG has truely been packed, because at any one game, not every swans member who has a reserved seat can attend. For big games like Saturdays, you would be able to sell a lot more general public tickets than just the 10,000 or so made available.

Now, I am also an SCG member, so I dont have a reserved seat, so how do those with one feel about this? Would it work to have maybe half the amount of reserved seating, offering them in a more expensive membership package, and a cheaper package for access to the general public seating?

i don't know what the answer is but it really pi$$#d me off on friday night at the pub hearing some guy talking about how he had bought 7 members guest passes. the limit is supposed to be four, i am dark on it because i tried to buy some earlier in the week and was told they had sold out. i thought after trying to buy them on the day for the saints game, that i was doing the right thing purchasing in advance....now i know why they sell out.

I tried to buy 6 member guest passes on Wednesday but couldn't. 7.05pm there was 8 empty seat next to me starting to rise). 7.30pm it was bumper to bumper.

I don't know how to fix the problem but if I could have sat with my friends (and I'm sure this is a common story) the attendance would have been higher.

The South Africa vs Aust. Rugger Bugger was on at same time on TV and I think quite a few people will have stayed home in the comfy lounge chairs and taken the channel surfing option.

There is also the issue that for many the SCG is not a very easy place to get to or from on a sat night....couple that with Digital TV and big fat plasma screens / split screen options and real food n no line up for the fridge and there will be less n less at sport as time goes on.

PS I have been in a 60k crowd at the SCG (on my dads shoulders in 1969) ... we sure will not see that crowd # @ scg again!
Ducks one week, Swans the next... just don't be a Goose till October!

I enjoy having my reserved seat as we have the same people around each match and they're a good bunch. We're normally there first as we watch the reserves and it slowly fills up, to game time, but we're garenteed to share a few laughs with the same guys each week.

I have my hand up for some empty seats. I have 1 empty seat every week. I pay for my niece who is 3 and will not be coming to the games until she is older, but I want that seat reserved for her. Sometimes I use it for one of my nephews friends, but more often than not it has my bag on it. (It did belong to Hubby, but he didn't renew this year).

This past weekend much to my disgust my nephews both decided not to go to the game (and were allowed to stay home) as we were "going to get flogged". I'm still tossing up whether to take them this week as punishment. Other committments or sickness fair enough, but fairweather doesn't sit well with me and being 9 and 6 they need to learn at early age what it means to really support a team. Maybe a bit harsh but that's how I feel (and I'm the favourite aunty).
Here's my heart and you can break it
I need some release, release, release
