Ask Bernie Evans if he remembers the 2 king hits on him, I am sure he has no recollection. Ditto for Giles of Melbourne and the daddy of them all, Bruns of Geelong.

I too have no respect for anything that comes out of his meely mouthed gob.
What a load of garbage, I dont think you could honestly belive what you have typed there have been far dirty players then Matthews It was how it was played back then if it was todays game players would not of done what they did then. Just out of Curoisty how do you rate our own Tony Lockett after the disgusting act he preformed of our Peter Caven or Gary Ablett on Gastev of Brisbane? still great champions but there many indiscrations seemed to be forgotten.

DPW, we will have to disagree on Matthews. Sure there was plenty of dirty players around then, but he was my pick of the bunch.

I think Brown plays in his mould. Seems to have a complete disregard for the welfare of his fellow players when it comes to fairness.

On Lockett and Caven. An absolute disgrace. When he saw he couldn't get to the mark took his eyes off the ball, lifted the elbow in nothing less than a premeditated act. Should have got a bigger penalty IMO.

Sensational footballers were Lockett and Ablett but it takes more than that to call someone a champion.
