I hope you are right Damien but we may
never know the whole story, Melbourne journalists are certainly
saying there is some truth in it. On the matter of the umpires I can
certainly understand why Colless made those comments most of
the season the umpiring has been very ordinary in a lot of matches not only ours I am just not sure that we can achieve a
lot apart from publicity that sounds a bit like whinging although
we have good cause. Umpiring is a tough job especially with the
rule interpretations changing all the time and all this critisim can
only put even more pressure on them.

Funny that most of the tools commenting on Colless' comments havent actually seen any of the incidents in question.

What is one meant to say when Voss receives a free kick infront of goal for a 'sneeze in the back' or Kingsley gets likewise after a perfectly legitimate spoil by Leo versus a Western Bulldog basically sitting on Barry's back?

          Quote in the Tele

How funny. My first ever posting to this Board and it gets quoted in the Telegraph. I'll know to be careful with what I say from now on, not that I regret my comments on the umpiring/Colless issue.

BTW, I didn't see yesteday's Tele so I don't know how much of what I wrote was quoted.

It just goes to show how journalists are now looking anywhere and everywhere to find a story or an opinion. It also goes to show how difficult it is for anything or anyone that is official to have a say on anything to do with umpires.

Well Colless's comments were justified if the players survey is anything to go by.

Love the fact that only 1.3% of the 530 players surveyed (which equates to 6.89 players) said that the umpiring was excellent. I wonder who those players can be????????????
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

The Swans, Wallace's management and Terry Wallace have done an amazing job if that is the case.

This was the hottest story for a long time, and to this day there are a few journo's that would love to prove their theory was correct.
Just playing devil's advocate, there's no reason why these payments would ever see the light of day. The payments could be put down as consulting fees. Only a few people would ever see the agreement. No one would ever know of the payments received by Wallace.

I've worked in a few companies, some pretty high profile, where dodgy things were done - some came out, some didn't. Not everything is always uncovered.

As a slightly different, but similar, example, the journos are always speculating as to what the players get paid and frequently get it wrong. You'd think that sort of information, which does get around, would be pretty accurate if anything is. However, it shows how difficult it is to get details of things people keep hidden.

If Colless is God then Luke Ablett needs a new nickname.
