    Right.

Now that that's out of the way we should expect a better deal on the paddock.

I think the AFL need to get real about fining players and officials for criticising the AFL. If it is about time the AFL board had a good hard look at itself and accept that there is a problem with match officials and fix the problem not fining all and sundry that make it known that there is a problem.

Club officials bagging out umpires (rightly or wrongly) has always generated a fine and censure. Every half pro league in the country fines Club Officials for that type of comment.

Colless would have been very aware of the consequences when he lashed out I am sure.

Clubs are allowed to make complaints internally re: umpires. So there is a procedure in place.

Obviously, sometimes, this sort of scrutiny is required and hopefully with Richard lashing out, we can have the same happy consequences that the untouchable Essendon got.

No club has observed the AFL?s protocol on this issue more than the Swans; Roos has had countless discussions with the AFL over this issue (including the now famous video presentation to Geishen last year regarding the rough justice regularly handed out to Barry Hall). The AFL simply pay lip service to internal complaints ? even admitting that sometimes the umpiring is UTS ? but nothing ever happens.

The ONLY way clubs can get action on this issue is to publicly bag the AFL/umpires/management; it always incurs a fine but is often the only way that the powers that be ever take any notice. It was no coincidence that the Bombers received a better run from the umpires after Sheedy and Hird made a premeditated attack on the umpires (including the naming of one in particular) earlier this year.

Unfortunately after the Bomber's episode, when it was clear that the 10 grand made a differency, I suspect that we'll be up against it. But if the $$ make a difference, I would appreciate it if the umpires let us know in advance so we can throw some money in the right direction.

(Not, of course, because I belive that we'll need it. More that I hope we won't be subject to the deliberate decisions against the Swans)

                    It was $20K, not 10

                      Okay... this bothers me.
Why do we get fined $10,000 for Colless saying the words "disgraceful", "incompetent" and "a joke" when talking about umpires... NOT at a press conference or on television I might add.
Yet Hird gets fined $10,000 more for actually naming the umpire who was "disgraceful" ON national tv.
Eddie McEverywhere doesn't get ANYTHING for calling the goal umpire in Lions V Pies the "umpire from hell".
Malthouse insinuates that the umpires are extraterrestrials, he doesn't get fined, although I suppose he has paid $5,000 this year.
If we were going to get fined that much surely we should have thrown some names in!

I don't think this fine is going to help in anyway... just more money for the bloody umpires.

Who by the way are wrapped up in frickin cotton wool!!!!!!
