Should there be an inquiry?

I am devastated, both at what happened on field, and the tragedy off it. I wonder if there needs to be some form of inquiry to see why the game was not stopped to allow an ambulance direct access...I don't know if it would have made any difference, or indeed the details of what happened and what steps were taken, all I know is that leaving the ground, some 20 minutes or so after the the tragedy, my wife and daughter saw him still being given CPR as he was being stretchered to an ambulance at the back of the stands...
Maybe the reserve umpire should have informed those onfield to stop the game and allow an ambulance with fibulator onto the field...
I am still reeling from last night...very confused....

I don't think there's any doubt that the game should have been stopped, if necessary, to get the ambulance there. A man's life may have been saved.

I waited for about 5 minutes or more in my seat before starting to leave after the game and got passed the cheer squad seats on my way to the exit at least another 10 minutes after that and still there was no ambulance. He would of been there for over 30 minutes if it happened 15 into the last quarter. That is crazy! I would consider a sporting event to be the best place to handle a medical emergency - obviously not.

I thought that there was an ambulance required at all sporting events. Clearly this wasn't the case. There had been discussion of a boycott of sporting events this weekend by ambulances as a protest against state govt resourcing of hospitals, but I thought it had been called off. I have no idea if this had any impact to the response time. You would think that there would have been medical staff on the bench in any case, presumably these were Club employees.

I doubt they would of had equipment to handle a heart attack. All they can do is CPR until an Ambulance arrives.

Best bet would of been to stop the game for 5 minutes and drive a ambulance in and out quicky. Is there any AFL policy on stopping games for things like this?

I wasn't meaning to imply that they would have had the equipment, just that maybe these were the only medical staff available at the time.

the reason I noticed something was afoot pretty early on was due to an SCG medic (had an orange vest with 'Medical' on the back) running past my seat and onto the ground (we sit just off the aisle) with what looked like a portable defibulator or similar equipment. I saw this and looked to the bench to see what was going on and saw Gibbs carrying out CPR. The medic was also one of those assisting Gibbs with the resuscitation along with St Johns first Aid people I think.

When I heard someone had a heart attack I thought it was at the start of the little league but that was a separate incident.Does anyone know what happened to that person.He seemed in awful trouble.

The word going around our area (always full of doting parents armed with cameras galore at half time) when that incident happened was that a little kid had gone skidding on the dewy ground and barrelled the parent, who fell and hit their head something fierce on the ground and knocked themselves out. There was concern as they were down for quite a while, but from the looks of it nothing more than a nasty headache and maybe some concussion I'd guess.
