    Jason Ball

Kangas got a free kick because Jason Ball deliberately hand-balled the football out. I reckon he should've hand-balled it through the goals. Better a draw than a loss I reckon! @@@@ happens.

If Jason knew that his handball to the boundary was going to result in a goal he probably would have rushed a behind. It was right in front of me, I thought it seemed a big call to make by the umpire... the least he could have done was make sure the right person took the kick!

I was 100m away in the O'Reilly stand and it still looked like the most blatant deliberate OOB I've ever seen. As soon as it happened I thought "Oh no, we've given away a goal here".

So many things had to go wrong for us to lose - and they all did.

Take nothing away from North though, we might have rolled over and played dead, but all those goals still had to be kicked. It hurts, but there were two sides out there in that last quarter.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, he should have rushed that behind. Ball was probably the 2nd worst player (behind Doyle) that could have been in that situation, he lacked the agility, and the sense, not to panic. The most frustrating thing is, he would have been pinged for holding the ball under the new interpretation and that would have been in the back of his mind.

I didn't mean to imply it wasn't obvious, it certainly was and looked a lot worse on the replays when I got home.

Ball really stuffed up at the end, fumbling, falling over and then handballing out of bounds. However, I wouldn't blame him fopr the loss - we should never have been in that situation. I thought he played pretty well in the last quarter taking a number of marks when we were trying to clear the ball out of D50.

I didn't see much of Ball in the game, I thought he got injured but you're right.. We should not have been in that situation to begin with. I think Doyle wasn't an asset to the team. That game just totally wipes out last weeks victory!

Decision was line ball (no pun intended).

Was the right thing to do (go for the line), but he just did not disguise it well enough as the umpire will always ping you if you go direct to the boundry.

Another 5 to 10 meters up the line and he would have had no problems.

                  Thems the breaks..............

It was one of those things... he was on his way, had picked up the ball, and then stumbled. He went to ground, the ball spilled out. Had he dragged it back under he would have been pinged for HTB, as it was, he went for the boundary line and (rightly) got done for deliberate. Very, very badly disguised.

However, I am at a loss to see why O'Keefe punched it goal side in the first place (and so emphatically at that!). Had we been more than 1 point ahead it may have made sense, but gee, he could have at least angled it towards the sideline...

Probably, one of those decisions if it happend earlier in the game nothing would come of it, but because the way the game was then the umps saw it differently.

Ahh I know I totally agree! It was BADLY disguised and yes if he had've made that mistake earlier, it would not have made a difference! We had so many behinds/points and just imagine.. If half of those [or all even better] were turned into goals we would've been killing them! Our accuracy in goal-kicking was o-k-a-y!
