Is it better to follow a really cr*p team?

Absolutely gutted by Saturday night's events...to give up a seven goal 3/4 time lead so pathetically and seeing a club stalwart having his chest pumped as he's loaded to an ambulance, put a lot of emotions into play. After the match I was filthy at the Swans...loosing the unlosable, letting me down yet again in a crucial game. I admire the Kangas and always have for their spirit and never say die attitude, which surfaces a lot more than in many other teams. I can't imagine, for example Schwatta going out on a loss if he had been still a Roo. I can't imagine the Kangas lying down in the last quarter for Cressa's last game if he'd worn the blue and white...AFter following the Swans for so long, I said to family on Saturday night, that that was it...I would not renew my membership next year...following a team that seems to revel in mediocrity and inconsistency is taking too much out of me. I would much prefer to follow a team, like the Swans of Old, the Swans of the Bucky and Col Kinnear era, where a 20-odd game losing streak meant that you KNEW they would put in a crap game every week, but fluke one they may. Or, perhaps switch allegiance to a team you could reasonably expect to have a crack, if not a win...What to do? In the past couple of weeks, we have lost two club stalwarts in Russel and now Wally in the course of following that team...the truth is, though, that after all this club has been through, I still love them...
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

Quite simply, people that are bitching about being the swans being Cr@p etc, really could give Richmond fans a lesson in being fickle.
Yes the inconsistency is as annoying as hell, but that is life.
Want to follow a team that is consistent go for Brisbane, want to follow a cr@p team take your pick of Hawthorn,Western Bulldogs,Carlton,Collingwood,Richmond.

Thats what fairdinkum supporters do mate. Through
thick and thin, good times and bad times. This is what
separates real supporters from the pretenders.

Im still filfthy at the loss, but I'd never consider switching allegiances to another team. I just wouldnt be able to do it. I'll keep renewing my membership so long as I can afford it, in hope that one day this team will get it right.

If you live in Sydney who else can you support? All the pain will make a grand final victory all the sweeter.I am using thoughts of the Brisbane and St Kilda victories as an anti depressant to the North game.

This last couple of years has been the hardest to go for the swans.

Back early nineites, a loss was the norm, so any win was just magical.

The post 1996 version of the swans is just too damn exhausting for me lol I simply wany consistency and the ability to actually trust that we are more than likely going to beat sides that we are better than!!

I would never give up on them though - not for any reason at all. Unlike some swans fans I know (actually work in the same building as one), I would never threaten the club with the non renewing of my membership for reasons as petty as who the president, coach or who the players are, or how the team was going.

To me, you deal with the good and bad, and unfortuantly at this club over our history, we have had to deal with a bit more bad than the rest.

The upside to following the Swans is when/if they finally win the big one, it is going to be soooo much sweeter to those of us now who have followed the boys through thick and thin.

Don't worry about the big one, DrJ is up to witnessing ELEVEN normal finals live without seeing a single win dating back to the seventies. Maybe he's a mock??

Back in my school days in the early 70's I was a mad Parramatta supporter. In a school of 600 boys there was ONE other Parramatta supporter. I copped @@@@ week after week, but when they came good in the mid 70's, finally breaking through in '81 the win was soooo sweet, although I bet there was a lot more than 2 fans at my old school then!!

Strangely enough the Swans came to town the following year and I quickly had a foot in both camps, going to Swans games one week and Parramatta games the next.

Getting married a few years later I sort of had to make a choice, so Parra got the flick because I had followed them to multiple consecutive wooden spoons in the early 70's and 3 straight flags in the early 80's.

The Swans kept the pattern going with their consecutive wooden spoons in the early 90's, but we are starting to run out of time for the run of flags in the 00's. But we still have 6 seasons including this one, so I still believe.
