Leo Barry and his runs

Can someone please explain why when Leo Barry goes for one of his runs he handpasses the ball to someone standing next to him instead of kicking it long into our forward line???

He did it time and time again on Saturday Night. When I watched the Brisbane game I also noticed he did the same thing. He keeps getting himself and his team mates into trouble.

That's the enigma of Leo. If we don't know what he's going to do then how in the hell can anyone else?

It would probably easier to explain the theory of relativity than explain Leo's runs, but I have to say I love 'em. It gets me pumped.

I reckon he gets caught nowhere nearly as many people beleive when he takes 'em on and has an amazing ability to break tackles, run around in circles so he can break another before disposing of the ball.

I think he rarely gets himself into as much trouble as most beleive, but undoubtedly he gets his teammates into problems because they really have no idea what he is going to do.

The problem is that we do know what he's going to do. He is going to run to group of 3 opposition players, stop and handball side ways to another stationary player with an opponent breathing down his neck.

It is a good question - why - but maybe only Leo can answer?

I like Leo running out of defence, as much as it has me on the edge of my seat.

My 3 year old son does an excellent impression of Leo Barry. He picks up his little Sherrin and screams "I'm Leo Barry!" and sprints from left to right and back and forth singing "first I go this way, then I go that, then I go this way, then I go that" to the tune of Fatboy Slim's "Weapon of Choice".

I think I know what it is. He runs faster than his brain works, so by the time he realises what he wants to do he's right on top of the opposition.

Leo Barrys runs are integral to settin up attack options for us. I couldnt care less how dumb they look, they are working and almost impossible to coach against. We have players like TIger and Bevo able to run off him, so its fine. Let him play with the confidence, thats how he plays best, as do the rest of the list. It is runs like those that gots us deep into September '03

The point is that he doesn't set anything up.

What is the point of a player running to space when Leo has the footy. He ain't gunna kick it to him, because he doesn't have a real good look upfield to see what's on offer. His head and eyes dart from side to side to if there is a player who will take the footy by hand, to satisfy his media fed persona and make him look good. he knows he will otherwise just blaze away with a kick to no one. Goes for the specky, drops it, knocks over our players, opposition pick up and snag a goal. Goose.

As other people have said, he just puts others under unwarranted pressure. He is just not a team player.

It just takes him a bit of to get onto his left in a bit of space - and if he can't he panics a bit

If he did kick long into the forward line it would be the first for weeks. On many occasions he is clear on his left but inexpicably turns back onto his wrong foot, gets himself and team mates into terrible trouble.

Did anyone see the clip from the game on the Channel 9 Sunday Footy Show, where we had 11 handpasses in about a 20metre circle then turned it over in the midfield? One of Leo's great setups.

Leo would be an awesome breakdancer or dancer in general. With those moves...

I like watching him though...most times you know he will get out of trouble, but when he doesnt you also know its going to lead to a goal.

Oh well.

How the hell could u call him a player that plays for himself. He goes relatively unheralded across the country, goes about his job, defeats players that are far superior to him, backs up his mates, puts his body on the line....and u call him "not a team player." Mate, you are an absolute moron to ever comprehend that. What he does with his body, just to make sure his team gets over the line, even when the game is dead, is beyond anything you will ever be able to comprehend, you deadset fruitcake.
