    Did we play THAT bad

Did the Swans really play that bad in the last quarter, or was it that the Kangaroos played desperate football, and had a couple of lucky breaks, which highlighted any mistake our players made. Every game has a few mistakes from both sides - sometimes like when your opposition is playing perfectly it just lloks so more obvious.
Given that some of the 'best' sides ( by virtue of their ladder position ) have had some shock losses last couple of weeks, and probably a couple more to come, and Brisbane havent even looked convincing for 2 whole matches let alone one final quarter, I wouldnt be placing any bets on who will win the last Sat in Sept, let alone who will even be there.

We were that bad. Even before the tragic events of the last quarter the signs were not looking good. As has been said before, the Swans would have to be one of the most frustrating teams to support. Personally, no flag since 1933 is totally unacceptable in my opinion.

since 1933 we have been the worst in the comp

only port and freo havent won a flag in that time and have only been in the comp since 1995 and 1997

The reason why we haven't won a flag is because we didn't play in finals much. It's impossible to win a flag from outside the finals. We are a good chance to win a flag sometime in the next 10 years because we now have a culture of regular finals participation.

Our only problem is that we are a good middle-of-the-ladder side. We tend to finish 7th or 8th after the finals (1997, 1999, 2001), or miss the finals altogether due to bad luck (2000, 2002).

Only in 1996, 1998 and 2003 have we done anything worthwhile in finals. These are the only years since 1945 when we've won one or more finals.

But there's one thing in our favour. At least we're not Richmond.

I support the Swans becuase they are a Sydney team therefore no flags in 20 odd years is how I look at it.I don't mean to offend old Sth Melbourne supporters nor deny the history of the club but I wouldn't be supporting the Swans if they were not a Sydney team.
Although gutted by the loss I think people are going way overboard in their criticism of the team.

From what I have observed over the years Bob Skilton has certainly been a staunch supporter of Sydney. Also 1956 Brownlow Medalist Fred Goldsmith has kept a keen interest, and I believe Bob Pratt helped out with appearances.

Don't forget, the guernseys now have SMFC on the back of them. You can bet the history is important.

At this rate, it maybe that the Richmond supporters could one day be saying at least we arn't the Swans.
