I am not a big Mathews fan, but you have to give credit where it is due and he beat his opponent on Saturday night, so well done. He is a disciplined player and good in this role.

As for comparing him to Leo, that is like comparing apples to oranges. They have different jobs and play different styles, as the coach instructs.

Mathews is a linking player specialising in uncontested possessions, which I don't knock him for as we need a few of them. My big problem with Mathews is that his hands often let him/us down when going for the ball in contesed situations. He fumbles far too often IMO...

    Anyway, back to Leo
"As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.
Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.

After the game one of the radio stations interviewed O'Loughlin and he was asked about our running defence. He joked and said that everytime Leo goes for a run he dodges 28 players including himself (i.e. his shadow!). He then said Kennelly thinks he is at the Olympics in a hurdles event!
