As much as we heard about Wally Jackson this week, and what he meant to the club, I don't think I really understood it until the end of the game tonight. All the boys, Jason Ball in particular, looked incredibly relieved/proud/happy all rolled into one. It was a bittersweet night, and it was nice to see the team rally like that, especially considering the Jackson boys were there watching. I don't think I've seen the song sung quite like that for a while, despite the game not being an exciting, close one, and it was certainly a nice night to be a Swans supporter.
As for the game - Micky O'Loughlin is an elite player when at his best, and he just seems to be getting better by the week. He is most definately one of the sweetest players to watch in the team, and like Tadhg mentioned in the post-match interview, it's a credit to him to have come back from so many injuries and perform like he does (incidently, I think they mentioned at one point that he kicked 5 against the Demons last year, the same round that he did his hammy, and so I was holding my breath for a while there...)
Kennelly, Mathews, Crouch, Barry, Goodes, Nicks and Hall were the best of the rest, for mine. The run of half-back that Kennelly provided was integral to the win, and Barry against played outsized, and got the better of Neitz (who usually plays well against us). Interesting that Schauble didn't actually spend all that much time on Neitz at all, and seemed to be on Holland most of the game.
I can't think of much else currently, except that the last quarter clog seems to be becoming more and more a part of Sydney's game. I don't really know what to think of it, except that it's winning us games, so I'm not all that fussed presently.
I remember Roosy saying in his interview with Brad Seymour that footy can provide some of the highest highs, and I reckon the boys would be feeling it tonight, after the horror week they had. There looked to be a few tears after the match, which I guess is indicative of how emotional it all was.
Well done boys! A deserved win.
