We don't have what we need 4 bombers

Alas, where's Moose Henwood when you need him....

For Saty night we NEED to take a leaf out of the Bombers book and target a couple of specific players to "test them out" -- Lloyd's shoulder and Hirdy's ribs. We don't have any of the real hard players like Hardwick etc that have graced the bombers at the moment, unfortunately. So the best we can hope for is some knees in Hirdy's kidneys, and leaping leo digging the sprigs in on Lloyd's shoulder in marking contests...

But seriously, we must REALLY test out these two....get some mongrel into us!!! The bummers will come out with all of Sheedy's bag of tricks in play, so we must be prepared to not only take it, but to dish some of it out too! I don't want us to go down like Freo have to the bumboys or the pw pies did last week.
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

Yup: Kirk, Jude Bolton, Maxfield, Hall - all soft!

I think we have shown we are a better team than Essendon over the past 2 seasons (or at least can compete with them). We just need to play for four quarters of football and not give away any free kicks in our fifty.

Shouldn't that read: not give the umpires any semblance of a chance to pay a free kick inside our defensive 50??? Seems we don't have to actually give a way a free kick to have one paid against us!

        I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

I hope you're not missing the point...I don't think any of those guys aren't hard at the ball, they're just not the hard, rough-em-up, play-the-man types that have for so long graced the bummers ranks... we don't have the sheer mongrel types like whack-you-behind-play Hardwick, eyegouger rioli, or just that ungainly and unfortunate dustbin fletcher...
All I'm doing is pleading for us to one day get a dirty mongrel of our own who can do the behind-the-play roughing up, a la Essendon style...

Oh what heaven it was when the bummers were bottom of the table...but whatever happens from here on, 2004 is compensated by the fact that the poos and wees will hopefully get the wooden spoon...

Please please never let me come across an essendon player or supporter on fire in the gutter...

Essendon hasn't had any true rough and tough players for a long long time. This is just a myth that they try to perpetuate.

Having said that, I think we should test out Hird and Lloyd with some bone-jarring tackles and bumps (make sure they're fair!!) and then get on with the football! The running game is what we need to see on Saturday - Essendon are a slow team and if we get our running game going we will smash them. If we clog it up we will lose.

Fair enough. But there are reasons why I go for Swans and not a team like the Bombers and that is one of them. Don't mind hard play at all - not too fond on the "dirty mongrel" style would of hoped the league is past that.

Stuey could have a go at another of his "striking" round arms to hirdy ribs. But i reakon we go really dirt and get someone like thewlis who we wont need later on to take out hird at the opening bounce like that geelong guy did to dermet brereton in the 89 grand final, cept dermy played a brilliant game, but hird wont do that he's too soft.

It would be good if we had a collision player in the team in the mould of Guerra or Pickett. Our blokes are hard at the ball and tackle well but don't really hurt.It would be good to see opposition players have a peek now and then.Do any of the young blokes in the reserves have some mongrel in them.I haven't seen enough of Thewlis but he could fit the bill.

they'll give lloyd a free anyway

IIRC they were the ones that clogged it up last time. i reckon they will have a fairly defensive mindset, i.e we may be more of the hunted than we think...

We played the chipping game last time and the ball went nowhere. When we ran it, we kicked goals.

Some people have obviously not watched Stuey this year. He has put some massive bumps on players in our defensive 50 this year.
