Finals come two weeks early for Bombers

    From essendonfc.com
Kevin Sheedy has labelled Essendon?s clash against Sydney as a ?mini-final?. With just two games remaining in the home and away season and the Bombers? clinging to eighth spot, a finals? berth is up for grabs Saturday night. "It will be very important for our side to perform well in Sydney, especially with all the young players we have in our team," Sheedy said.

Sheedy admitted that spearhead Matthew Lloyd had not fully recovered from his shoulder injury despite playing against Collingwood. "He (Lloyd) was probably 90% fit. He played a very unselfish game on Friday night," Sheedy said. "Matthew will be very close to full fitness this week. He is pretty keen to get out there and play well."

Lloyd acted as a decoy, but still managed to kick one goal and play a part in several others. Youngster Jobe Watson came into the team and played forward alongside Lloyd. Watson booted the opening goal and kicked his second major for the match at the 17 minute mark of the first term.

"Jobe really created some real goal power for us. He played a role in getting five goals for us through his marking and handballing. He is a very, very smart player for us Jobe Watson."

Sheedy wouldn?t confirm if and how many changes he would make to the side for this weekend. He did say that Sean Wellman and Andrew Welsh (knee) are available for selection and Dean Rioli (hamstring) is still one week away. Joe Misiti (knee) is also set to return, but Sheedy said he is unlikely to come back into the team.

"Joe is not necessarily a chance to come back in - we kicked about 18 goals without him last week. Our team has been in transition for the last month, maybe six weeks and we are gradually playing better and stringing more good quarters of football together. Whether it is too late in the season or spot on, only time will tell."

      Sheedy talks too much.
