no matter what K.Tempeltons sins, publicity, and an improving relationship with the Sydney media is important, and I hope the Swans and the AFL bear that in mind.

It's nice to know we have some of the Telegraph's journos reading this forum.Comment

Jeez I reckon the Storm get a bloody good run in Citizen Murdoch's paper (The HUN)!
Considering that they draw less than 10K on average to their games. I suppose News LTD has to look after their investments.
I think it is sad that a sporting body (NRL) has to rely on gaming money and News LTD to survive in its current state. Rugby League is not THAT bad a game but I'm willing to bet that League players will be on 40% less than AFL stars after the next media rights bonanza for the AFL.Comment

Did anyone see the article by Nikki Tugwell (on news.com.au and I guess in the Terror) about this weeks game?
This is what she said:
"On Saturday night the Swans - led by O'Loughlin and Adam Goodes - and Essendon - with Dean Rioli, Nathan Lovett-Murray and Damian Cupido - team with the AFL to celebrate the traditional game of Marn Grook."
Can anyone pick the error?
Very embarassing!Comment

Plus Nathan LM was dropped last week (and hasn't been recalled - though he is named as an emergency) while Rioli has been injured for several weeks now.
She managed to miss the one indigenous player who will be playing for the Bombers on Saturday night - Murphy.Comment

Lovett-Murray's been an emergency about 10 times this year, but he always ends up coming into the side. He'll play on Saturday night.

I've always had a bit of a paranoid thing about Murdoch and the News Corp conspiracy thingo...... But really I think that the daily Terror has really supported the Swans very well. i think mostly cos there are some true AFL fans umoungst the Journo's.
Another big back page lead out today wouldn't hurt but.Comment

You've got to remember though that News Ltd own rugby league, so it's in their interests to maintain it as the dominant sport in NSW and Qld. They also have a massive investment in Rugby Union and the AFL of course, but more in terms of TV rights than actual club ownership. The Telegraph is good at sensing the mood of the people and jumping on the bandwagon. If there is a groundwell of interest in something, they'll get on board.
They plugged Super League to death, as it was their comp, but happily joined the "bring back Souths" campaign when it was in their interest.
The thins that staggers me is that the same people who complain about the Terror, and News Corp, and Super League etc, still buy the paper religiously anyway. Force of habit is a powerful thing *shakes head*
Anyway, if there's support and interest in the game, the Tele will run something on it.Today's a draft of your epitaphComment

The tele will run with stories, but they need to build up enough momentum to overide inbuilt biases. Eg the souths story took the SMH to take up the case first.
This weeks game is a classic example. It s the biggest thing in Sydney this weekend, yet cant build up enough momentum to push league off the back page, when in a unbias system, it would. Under the current arrangement, we need to be flag favourites to generate the headlines.Comment

Within months they had called up again, asking for a new subscriptions.
The problem in Sydney, is that if you don't read the Tele, but HAVE to read a paper, your only option is the SMH, which your normal tele reader believes talks down to them!!
The funniest story was a guy cancelling the Telegraph in one call for Super League reasons, yet ringing up within 2 minutes asking for an 'Australian' subscription. Not realising he had called the same number again and that the 'Australian' was a News Ltd paper!Comment

They may believe that, but it's not true - although the SMH does have to learn that Sydney is a bigger city than 10km around the CBD. The thing the Tele readers may not realise is how much their intelligence is being insulted. I mean Piers Ackerman?? Please!!Comment
