Whilst obviously unhappy at the prospect of a home final at the Gee (because I won?t be able to go), in reality it is not such a bad thing. You can bet that 000?s of committed Bloods will turn up and the uncommitted Melbourne supporters who come will lean towards us too. So we will get the home crowd no problem, plus the experience of a knockout game at the Gee.

In any case, I reckon there is still a lot of water to go under under the bridge. I would not be surprised if North pull an upset against Brisbane and the showdown could be any-ones game. Either of the above happen and the Saints pump Freo, the home(bush) final is still a on, PROVIDED we do not drop our collective bundles and lose to Richmond.

ps: Would anyone like to hazard a guess at how many committed Bloods there are in Melb who would turn up to a Gee final.

Off topic, but... 10.99 posts per day is downright phenomenal, although a few of those have been from receives in a flurry of posts across the half back line...

Some one more knowledgable than me (or with a ****load of time on their hands) may be able to answer this one:

If we play at the G and win our 'home' final , is there any possibility that we would have to play away again the week after?

We may not get a final in Sydney at all.

Still, I'm in Melbourne, can't remember the last time the Swans played here 2 weeks in a row!

Maybe even 3 or 4 weeks in a row - jeez that would be good....

..........trying to keep a lid on it

If the 8 finishes as expected - and then finals went as expected, plus us winning lol, we would play

                WCE - MCG
                St.KILDA MCG
                PORT - AAMI Stadium

I agree with the first two gamews but I calculate we'll play Brisbane at the Gabba if we get that far. I reckon Brisbane would be more scared of playing us in a preliminary final than any other team excpet Port.

Port will play Geelong in the first week. Geelong's weakness has been games outside Victoria; Adelaide beat them this weekend. If Port win, and we win our first two games, we will play Port in the preliminary final.

                      Here's an interesting note.
The most likely finals matchups will be:
Port Adelaide (first) v Geelong (fourth) and Melbourne (fifth) v Essendon (eighth)

If Essendon beat Melbourne (likely on form), and Port lose their first final, we will see a third consecutive Port-Essendon semifinal (and we would play Geelong in the prelimary final).

Due to the time limitations someone on BF has worked out these times for the finals

                        "Should be something like this:
Fri N Sydney v West Coast (Stade de Oz)
                        Sat Melbourne v Essendon (MCG)
Sat N Brisbane v St kilda ('Gabba)
Sun Port Adelaide v Geelong (Football Park)

But thanks to Operation "Head up @rse" things will probably look like this:
Fri N Sydney v West Coast (MCG)
                        Sat Melbourne v Essendon (MCG)
Sat N Brisbane v St kilda ('Gabba)
Sun Port Adelaide v Geelong (Football Park)

So Herr Dimwitriou will lose the AFL dream event of a final in Sydney at the Stade de Oz.......feel sorry for Sydneysiders and South fans, just shows you how much the AFL really 'care' about being "A" in AFL rather than "V"."

Don't get too far ahead. If melb. beat W.C. and essendon win then we will play our home final against essendon at the MCG.
How would that make everyone feel?

As much as I like the idea of a Swans final in Melbourne in Week 1 (my bank balance will be thankful), its just not right that we miss out on a home final that we earnt thoughout a hard fough 22 rounds of football. Not only that but what advantage we had through playing at home will be no longer.

However it still will be like a home final with the amount of Swans fans at the game and we get use to playing on the MCG before a possible meeting against the Saints or Cats who haven't played at the G that offen this season. No point crying over the MCC contract now, we have been warned about this well in advance.

Also keep in mind the contract was signed in 1990 as part of the deal to get bank funding for the Great Southern Stand and when the league had only 3 interstate teams, of which two didn't have a bright looking future. Can't blame the AFL for signing the deal back then, nor can you expect them to do anymore than they already have in trying to change the contract. The MCC is well within its rights to play hard ball.

Also Anni, we won't play Friday Night because of TV ratings in Sydney. No way will the AFL want us to go up against Friday Night League on Ch9 in Sydney, so we'll end up playing Saturday 2.30pm, with Brisbane vs St Kilda moved to Friday Night and Melbourne vs Essendon on Saturday Afternoon.

Also whoever asked how many Swans fans in Melbourne will go, I would say all up at least 20,000 of us with a fair few down from Sydney.
                              Once was, now elsewhere

In terms of playing at the MCG against West Coast/Freo then it is a neutral venue, which is normal for finals. Finals are meant to be that way - they always have been. The only reason home finals were brought in were so interstate teams were not disadvantaged - not so they were given an advantage. We don't play 22 rounds to benefit from a home final - we play to finish high for a double chance and so we don't play away.
