And so no one here has ever gotten down about something in their lives and wanted to throw something away for whatever reason? Even plugger was considering giving the game away in the late 80's when he kept getting injured and everyone kept telling him he was fat. It was only people keeping an extra special eye out for him that kept him going, and people looked out for him especially because he was a huge talent. Nick may not have such a huge talent in some senses, but obviously he has something or the club wouldn't have persisted with him after he did walk out in June, and they would have him on a much tighter leash if they thought he was a real problem.

Also, imagine being a sports person and not being able to get out there and play sport because of an injury beyond your control? You can't tell me you'd just wake up each morning and go "la di da off to the physio today again " Most normal people can't manage that sort of attitude, so why is that we expect flootballers, who are essentailly NORMAL people who just happen to run around a footy field for a living, to be able to manage that? Having been throught a ****load of injury rehab myself, I know I've come up with excuses not to do various components of my rehab, despite my eagerness to get back to sport and my normal lifestyle.

Yes, he is a professional footballer, but like most people, he's also human. So he doesn't have what is deemed to be the ideal attitude to his football training, but I'm guessing none of you can tell me you've never rocked up to work hungover, or come back from a good lunch with a few extra under the belt? Or how many of you waste hours at work surfing the net, just because it's there and you can? Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's not putting in 100% at your job. But does that mean you're no longer worth the money you earn? I bet you'd tell me no, you're still worth the money you're on.

Could the Magpies end up having the last laugh?

      I hope not.

I am puzzled to think of what he could get out of switching to league. Maybe the fact that he would probably be allowed to grow fat and sit on his ar*e for most of the week playing his PS2.
I'm sure it wouldn't be the lure of playing to a "massive" 15,000 people, that qualifies as an excellent league crowd.

He is ultimately responsible for his own actions so it's time to pull the finger out and get some help if he needs it or p*ss off.

Have you ever heard of Heath James?

Maybe Nick could take a leaf out of his book.

i wish i hadnt have read that article. very disappointing to say the least. its hard 4 us to comment on his behind the scenes stuff, but at the end of the day he is an AFL footballer who should b working his ass off 4 success. I question why the hell he would even make all these statements to the media in the first place. And not happy about him not showing up 2 the club without telling anybody. poor form

Yes they are good examples of people who have worked their asses off, but the point I was trying to make is that not everyone is 100% motivated 100% of the time, and reading some of what Nick had to say regarding how down he was at that point is actually quite disturbing. The fact that he didn't seek help is something the club should be working on, not just for Nick, but also for ALL the players, because injuries are commonplace and they can be debilitating in so many ways.

Like I mentioned before, Plugger almost gave it up and Paul Salmon has in the past spoken of how he contemplated suicide in his early days after doing a knee and thought his footy days were already over - and instead of saying "ok there's a problem here, we need to address it and support these players through these times" people come out saying he should be heading for the door because he obviously doesn't have the "it" factor.

Also, iirc, wasn't Heath seriously contemplating giving the game away after yet another injury, and it was only a lot of coaxing that convinced him to keep trying?

Isn't it just marvellous that we have so many qualified psychologists posting to this site who can give us their own very special insights into the mind of someone they have possibly never even spoken a word to !

Just like every other person is this world Nick Davis is an individual who sometimes makes mistakes. "Let those of you without sin cast the first stone".

Maybe he shouldn't have publicly said what he did but for heavens sake it's no reason to have him drawn and quartered.

Along with a few others I think he is great and I enjoy watching him play and would be extremely disappointed to see him leave for any reason.

Nick anytime you want to have a munch on some KFC I'd be only too willing to join you.

hey look i know where you're coming from. another point is, apart from being a professinal footballer, he is also a 24yr old male. most guys this age tend to be dicks from time to time. i'm told they grow out of it, so maybe he'll mature into a nice guy yeah? one that can edit his thoughts before the media print and broadcast it?

I can understand his attitude. He's not a passionate football player and is a bit lazy and hates to do rehab. He's still young, behaves quite young and obviously has low moods. I sympathise with him!

That's fine. As long as he does it in the off season. He can eat and do whatever he wants then. (within reason - no need for a Ricky Mott style pork attack.)
