    Buchanan and Rising Star Nominations

Has Monty got a national rising star nomination yet?

Just curious because i would find it hard to believe that he hadnt been nominated.

Another thing. The swans rising star award this year is going to be hottly contested -
    Buchanan
    Bevan
    McVeigh
    Ablett

My vote is Bevan. Any thoughts?
    Schneiderman
    Schneiderman
If he cant do it no one can!

Buchanan and Ablett are both completing their fourth seasons at the Swans. Hard to get excited about them as "rising stars".

McVeigh has shown steady improvement, but I think Bevan's season has been remarkable . . . the best first season performance I can remember at the Swans.

      How quickly we forget.
Bevan might be getting closer all the time, but Schneider's 2003 still beats Bevan's 2004. IMO

        Yup, I completly agree...

Bevan has shown us this year he is a good "best 22" player with a big future.

Schneider showed us last year he is an absolute star player with a big future (though since hampered by injury).

I agree that Schneider will be a star, injuries permitting and that his 1st year was better than Bevan's. But Bevan, IMO, is a gun and could have had a more spectacular debut season if he had spent more time up fwd than down back. I hope he wins the National Rising Star but do not expect it.

            Almost agree.

I hadn't forgotten Schneider's first year, nor O'Loughlin's, nor Saddington's, which were also excellent. In my opinion, Bevan's performance surpasses all those.

He has certainly been more consistent than Schneider was last year, has played more full games, and has been used in more roles. As far as I can see, he is nearly as accomplished in front of goal as Schneider, is a better mark, has more aerobic ability, is stronger, and has better defensive skills.

            What else is there?

I'd say that whilst Bevan has the talent and the guts and determination.

Schneider probably has a bit more class, and at this stage at least, Schneiders skills, particuarly by foot are more well polished than Bevans IMO. (Schneider probably needs to work on the goal accuracy though).

Bevan will obviously work on those in his time in the future.

Monty and NOG and Hammy were too old for the Rising Star or else they would have been nomimated for sure...they had all played less than 10 at the start of the season.

I doubt any of these would have received a nomination even had they not been too old (though admit I'm not sure who "Hammy" is). They've all put in some good performances but there are other players from other teams whose best has been at least as good as the best from these three and who have done it more consistently, and who haven't received nominations.

I think both Monty and Ablett have shown enough to indicate they may have a future with the club, and certainly enough to retain their places on an AFL list next year, but they still have some way to go.

However, I do agree with Silent Lurker that Goodes might have slipped from the memory banks.

Some very arguable points there... but overall, Schneider's 2003 was full of class, with very few mistakes.

Whilst Bevan's 2004 has been solid, with some great, gutsy performances, he has also made plenty of mistakes - both obvious and subtle - as you would expect in his first year.

                          Schneider's year was better IMO.

Note: If you were to compare Kelly and Bevan in their first year, Bevan would clearly come out on top IMO.

Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.

Bevan doesn't hoon around or show off - he is probably more of a team player.

Buchanan would have been a certainty for a nomination...Kolouritis? Hartigan? and a few others, I mean, come on.

Hammy is Heath James...guess I was a little too sideways on that one!
