Injuries!

Daryn Cresswell?s farewell AFL season has hit an early snag with the veteran midfielder ruled out for at least the next three weeks with a calf injury.
Cresswell announced prior to the Swans? season opener that 2003 would be his last season in a distinguished career which began way back in 1992.
The 31-year-old of 226 games was battling a calf injury during the pre-season and the problem again flared up during the second quarter of the Swans? thrashing of Carlton at Telstra Stadium on Sunday night.
The Swans also face an anxious wait to learn the seriousness of a knee injury suffered by promising ruckman/forward Stephen Doyle.
Doyle, whose height has troubled many opposition defences over the past year, suffered a fracture at the back of his knee cap during the win over the Blues.
The 203cm Doyle faces an arthoscopy on Wednesday to determine the extent of the injury with Swans? football operations manager Andrew Ireland admitting the injury could result in up to a 12 week lay-off.
However the Swans are hoping the injury will not be that serious and may only result in Doyle missing the next month.
The Swans however are expected to regain key defender Andrew Schauble (quad) and running defender Daniel McPherson (hamstring) for this week?s tough trip to Perth to meet Fremantle.
But star forward Michael O?Loughlin (knee) is unlikely to be risked. On the 72nd yr the city of Sydney will rejoice in Premiership Glory. -

Well, the away trip to perth is as good a time as any.
Our problem is not our absolute best team, but our depth.
177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

I think Schneider would have kept his spot in any case.
If Schauble's fit I guess he comes in for Doyle. Would like to see them give Ablett a game in place of Cressa, even though he apparently didn't do a huge amount for the twos this week. He showed a bit during the pre-season and the club has to find out this year whether he's got what it takes. Once Cresswell, Fixter and O'Loughlin are fit it will be hard to fit him in, so why not throw him a crumb now and see whether he grasps the opportunity. That said, I suspect it will be the more predictable choice of Frosty in.Comment

This dream run of injuries we hoped of getting to give us a shot of sneaking into the finals is slowly going down hill. We need a full strength team to have a good chance of getting in, and at the moment luck is against our side once again.
Doyle is a HUGE blow.No.1 ticket holder of Nick Davis Fan Club...Comment

Doyle seems to be incredibly unlucky with injuries, a lot of talent going to waste , still he is young and has time on his side. In regard to Schneider I would not thought that his position to be in any doubt , particularly , the way he is playing and taking his unlimited potential in to account. Who would have replaced him?Last edited by SWANSBEST; 31 March 2003, 09:29 PM.WMPComment

Doyle unfortunately has a fractured kneecap - I would say out for 12 weeks at least? Really sad - we will have to put barriers around him each time he gets on the field.
Great player - must come back and keep on - eventually I feel he will get on top of it.Love those SwansComment

OK heres what we do this week if Doyle is out for 12 weeks
1) Bring Menklejohn onto the senior list as a long term injury replacement - we need an extra ruckman don't we
2) Schauble for Doyle
3) Sundqvist for Cresswell
For Round 3
1) Magic for Mathews
2) Fixter for Warfe
So by Round 4 we have a pretty much stable line upOnce was, now elsewhereComment
