    Peter Bedford

I was just revisting Jim Main's "Plugger and the Mighty Swans" and at the back it said Peter Bedford wasn't a fan of the team moving up to Sydney.

Have things changed since the book came out - is this still the case?

Is reluctantly back in the fold.

Although spends more time these days as a coach of Port Melbourne, than having any interest in Sydney.

It is good to have him back in the fold in whatever way possible as he was a true superstar of the competition in his day. Think Michael Voss, and you have Peter Bedford. Made the centre his.

OK so I may be slightly overrating him.

On second thoughts no I damn well aint.

Just one of many people who was sad and angry that the club that he loved relocated to Sydney.
"As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.
Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.

He was at the Club Ball in 1996 - haven't seen him since.
I didn't know he was involved with Port.
Dr J - you aren't over rating him!

Wheels Bedford was at the Swans Team of the Century last August and was very excited to be in the TOTC and also to be around so many Swans greats and players.

Although, Bedford was not as excited as B.Mitchell, B.Round and P.Kelly were with each other at the bar next door to 5am in the morning after the TOTC - and the King still fronted up as runner the following night for the loss against Hawthorn at the SCG....

Not as a coach Cher, I meant committee.
He is actually the current Chairman of Selectors.
Despite Port having linked up with the Kangaroos, I still follow them in the VFL. They are after all Port Melbourne.

And yeah you are right I aren't over rating him. I still have great memories of number 11. Was totally shattered when the club refused to pay him what he wanted and he went to Carlton in 77. To think he played all those years for us when we were, in a word, crap. Playing the one final in 1970, and in the year we finally make it back to the finals, he wasn't there.

"Wheels" was against the move because if I remember rightly he was appointed, as an assistant coach to John Rantall, and of course when the Keep South at South committee failed, he didn't want a part of the move.

Its great to have him back, along with others such as Gary Brice.

Those two were my favourites as a little girl, until I grew up and discovered No 15 in my teen years!
