I don't get the night thing. If there are only two games played why isn't one on Saturday and one on Sunday?

Because the AFL want to give each team who plays in Week 2 at least 7 days brake between week 2 and the Prelim Final. So if two games are at the MCG next week one will be a Friday Night and the other Saturday Night, as has been the case each of the last 2 seasons at least. As Geelong and Port play Sunday they will need at least a 6 day brake to forfill AFLPA guidelines, thus bumping us if we indeed do win (or the Eagles for that matter) to Friday Night.

Only way it won't happen is if Port choke again, thus earning themselves a home final next Saturday Night, with St Kilda to play either us or the Eagles in the afternoon.
        Once was, now elsewhere

If Port wins both games will be at the G, hence both cannot be on Saturday (and it has already been explained why Sunday is out)

But if Port loses they could play Sat arvo and Sat nite - one at the G and one at AAMI.

A Friday night game against those Telstra Dome Loving Sainters at the MCG will be sensational!!

How will St Kilda cope in the outdoors with a slippery, dewy ball on a Friday night at the 'G"!!!!

Take Friday off work...sounds great and make a convoy down South!

A Friday night game v the Saints would mean Ten would have to run it live here against the first of the NRL semi-finals. Unlike the AFL, where the AFL does have a modicum of power in the negotiations over the draw and when matches are played, the NRL Friday night game will be picked by Nine.

Needless to say I'll be watching the Swans of course, even if the Dragons are on Nine at the same time.

There is nothing in any agreements with the League that has minimum rest periods and the like. Under the McIntyre finals system, the NRL has always played 4 v 5 on Fri night, 3 v 6 the earlier of the two games on Sat, 2 v 7 the later of the two games on Sat and 1 v 8 on Sunday afternoon.

No matter what the finals matchups are, Friday night league this week will be 4 v 5.

                  I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

it's in today's Sunday Telegraph as Friday too.

I'd agreed to babysit the nephews and niece too!!!!!!

Well they'd better show it live into Sydney and those three had better be well behaved. I think we'll be waving our flags in the lounge room come to think of it. Will give me an excuse anyway Can't carry on like a goose ..... oops Swan, otherwise.
