A mighty pleasing effort. They shook the thunder down from the sy (literally) in the second quarter and were relentless until the final siren. Our first home final win since beating St Kilda in 1998. Interesting to see who was sitting on the bench towards the end of the last quarter - Mick, Bazza, Bally and Willow.
Bring on St Kilda. Looks like Friday night. Once confirmed I'm gonna check out (cheap) flight availability.
And go you Cats tomorrow - would rather play them in a PF at the MCG than play the Port scum at AAMI.
Occupational hazards:
I don't eat animals since discovering this ability. I used to. But one day the lamb I was eating came through to me and ever since then I haven't been able to eat meat.
Loved Magic's diving tackle on Wirapunda (sp?) in the first quarter.
With a few minutes to go - the best bench in Swans history?
I thought that the WC smother and two quick goals followed by Hall's miss in the third was the beginning of something for the Weagles but I was glad to see us stand up to that attempted come back.
Some jurnos in Melbourne (The Age) didn't like the game at all saying they expected more from both teams.
It is very difficult to make everybody happy, isn't it?

To some extent I agree with them. While I'm happy that the Swans won so comfortably, and that we were saved the nail biting of other finals campaigns, as a contest it was disappointing.
That's no reflection on our boys. They came to play, absorbed the fierce pressure in the opening term and then just kept on keeping on. West Coast were very disappointing in their ordinary ball use in the second term even before the rain came tumbling down, and in their lack of intensity from quarter time onwards.
Add in the fact that the conditions meant it was never going to be a pretty game and I can see that, for the game that was being talked up the most during the week, it was a bit of a disappointment for neutral fans.
Roos has built a fantastic team - it seems everyone puts in as if every contested possession is crucial to the outcome of the match.
That is the sort of football that wins finals - hopefully 3 more this year.

I dont know how much more they could have expected from the Swans. They played great wet weather football. I think it was an impressive display by the Swans esp keeping the weagles goal-less in 2 quarters.
I was soaking wet and loving every minute!

Even if Sydney win the flag there will be a conga line of Melbourne journalists ready to criticise.

Generally it was a fairly dull spectacle, rain not withstanding.

Yep. What was going on there? Presented a few leads that were ignored, tried to move at forward 50 ball ups without much luckt... every forward has a crap day, but I was expecting Roos to push him further up the ground and instead he just kept running him to the bench. After the talk generated by those articles and last weeks performance I was paying extra attention to Nick, and I actually thought he must have been injured with how much time he spent on the bench.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
