    Invading Melbourne

I've just booked my flight down to Melbourne this Friday, returning Saturday, $244 rtn with Qantas was cheapest I could get. Hope lots of Sydney based supporters make the trip down to oin up with our Melbourne mates and cheer on the Swans as they make history by ending a 59 year drought.

Friday night game rules myself and at least six people I know from coming down to watch the game

And I even saved up a little nest egg in preperation to come down - guess I will save it for the grand final

Why have friday night football during the finals?? Isn't friday night football meant to be a thing to do a bit different during the season? Stupid stupid stupid

If Geelong lose today, the AFL don't have much choice.

By the 2nd week of the finals they don't have Sunday afternoon games, meaning Friday night, Saturday afternoon and Saturday night are the three options.

If Geelong lose, they host Essendon at the MCG and St Kilda host Sydney at the MCG. That means the two games have to be on different days, but even if the AFL were wanting Sydney to play on Saturday (for ratings or whatever) they can't have Geelong play Friday as they play today meaning only a 5 day break which is a no-no. That leaves the only option as Friday night for Sydney St Kilda.

If however Port lose today and host Essendon, I would imagine Sydney will play St Kilda on Saturday afternoon at the MCG with Port hosting Essendon at AAMI on Saturday night.

As far as the prelim finals go, the MCG game will be played Saturday afternoon with the other one (either AAMI or Gabba) to be played Saturday night.

      I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

It is also impossible to play games at the MCG on Sat arvo and Sat night. If Geelong lose, the Swans MUST play St Kilda at the MCG on Friday night.

Virgin Blue & Jetstar both have flights at under $100. I got a $79 flight down on Thursday night and a $69 flight back on Sunday morning.
The last couple of years, and also this year, the finals have been Friday & Saturday nights - that's to free up Saturday and Sunday afternoons for local grassroots grand finals to encourage people to attend them without missing the AFL.
