    A. No (but, yes I'm sure he will finish top 10 in the B&F).

    Q. Wht not?
    A. Because it's simply because he gets so much of the ball, not because of his impact on games.

    Q. Why does he get so much of the ball?
    A. Because he's there. (Hb\Wing without a man).

I'd actually argue that his "off the ball" stuff counts for much of his popularity around the club as "getting lots of the ball".

His work rate is enormous and often he does have accountability, such as Byron Pickett etc. He is also organised and I have never known him to make a fatal error.

Ben and Crouchy both take a long time to wind up and kick the damn thing, but if they were the Aker that someone suggests they could be, then they wouldn't be capable of locking down oppositions which is the job we need them to do at the moment.

Basically what I am saying is that he is vital to team balance and until we do have a much better option, he's a loyal son for mine.

which must be part of his instruction from the coaching staff otherwise they would not award him enough points to finish in the top 10 year after year.

Unless it's changed the B&F points system is awarded as per how they carry out their game plan as instructed by the coaching group. For Ben to finish so high so often he must be doing something right in his coaches eyes. Which in the wash up is more important than anything any of us have to say on the matter.

The B&F isn't an award voted on by the media who can't be bothered to actually watch games and so just look up the stats sheets. Nor is it a fans' "popularity" contest.

It is awarded by the Swans coaching panel, the guys who spend hours each week poured over tapes of the game reviewing for what went right and what went wrong, the guys who scratch their heads each week to come up with the best possible match-ups against the opposition, the guys who give each player his role for the game and spend the match focussed on the section of the ground they are responsible for, watching not just what is happening on the ball but observing all the manoeuvring around the ground.

Its why B&F awards are held in such high regard by players - because they are awarded by the people who actually know how you went against the objectives you were set.

But your "objective" view is better than Roos' and co's?

He's not unaccountable - he plays reasonable defence. He does play as a receiver, but that's his role - he makes space as a linkman. He does also put himself into the play too though. His disposal is very mixed and rather disappointing at times.

He is very important to our team I watched with interest a few times when he was directing teammates on were to kick it when they couldn't find a free man

I hope he does finish in the top ten he might then be worth something as trade bait so we can get a really good midfielder.

                  Cheers

Poor Benny can't be all that bad, he polled 64 in the HUN player rankings for the year.Top 100

I think the HUN relies heavily on stats for their rankings though.

                      39 Barry Hall Sydney
                      56 Jude Bolton Sydney
                      58 Brett Kirk Sydney
                      64 Ben Mathews Sydney

No - it relies totally on stats from Champion Data for these rankings.
