Interesting one. We don't get flogged in the 1stQ though, which is reminiscent of the Hawks under Jeans. Work them over, tackle hard, make 'em earn it early, really test them early.

If you are good at it, the opposition can only resist or respond for a certain time, before their will is broken and they run out of steam. Get a handy lead, and tired legs find it hard to run you down, particularly when a team is good at shutting down a game.

    QED.

Well I have been one of the Jude critics but on Saturday he did things well that he has been poor at.

I too saw him get boot and hand to ball at stoppages which in the past he has been content to hold up for another bounce. As the flow of the game went, he became a contributor because he too moved it on quickly as did the rest.

His disposal was better and he seemed to think a bit more about what he was doing. Maybe he had more time, but that hasn't been a factor in the past.

Interestingly he wasn't named in the best, yet he had about his average number of disposals, and I like others thought he executed his game much better.

For mine, I view Bolton the same way that I viewed Stafford. Two out of three games are awful-the third is a blinder and all is forgiven/forgotten? Do others feel this way?

No - I tend to view him more consistently than that. Say 1/6 is poor, 2/6 are ordinary, 2/6 are reasonably good, 1/6 is good to very good.

Since his poor start to the season I have rarely seen him play a particularly crap game, I think he puts in too hard to do that, but I rarely seem him to be an outstandingly effective player and pretty much never a matchwinner.

I think he's a solid player, and why I often say he makes a very useful third midfielder.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

So...In totallity, 1.5 of 3 games he earns his pay (give or take)?

Yep. The matchwinning (or lack thereof) concerns me. Thank God for Williams and Kirk then.

I think he's a solid player, and why I often say he makes a very useful third midfielder.
He does have his uses. BTW, your tone regarding him seems to have mellowed (?) since earlier this season. Not having a go-just an observation (remarks centreing around sitting on the ball, ineffective disposal et al).

I think he's solid too-just frustrating with it. I hope that he's BOG in a comfy win on friday night. Otherwise I think 300K PA is hefty considering some dubious output 50% of the time.

I dont think you can question is committment and courage. Polled well in the brownlow last year. His start of the season this year was bad, but he has definitely picked up his workrate. 8 Tackles on the weekend was a fantastic effort.

                  Maybe something like that.

My view of him has mellowed because now I no longer expect him to be the gun midfielder I had hoped. Therefore I view him in a new light. He still frustrates the hell out of me with his diving in and sitting on the ball and his poor disposals. However, in both of these areas I think he has improved too.

When you consider that some of the gun Brisbane midfielders get fairly similar pay packets his pay is absurd, and my view is still that he's probably not really worth that much.

I'm not sure how anyone can say he had a fantastic game on the weekend - he had 6 disposals in the first half when the game was there to be won. He was reasonably good in the third quarter and okay in the last. However, this again underlines that he doesn't cut it as our main midfielder.

No. staffords' ratio IMO was more like 5 crap games 1 decent one 5 more crap one great and so on. i reckon he was on about 1.5 great games a season.

I fail to see how anyone can call him awesome.

Here's a sample of his disposals in the third qtr:

                        - Makes a good effort to get the ball, handballs to Bevan but misses the target

                        - Runs into space and marks by himself and then chips forward 20m

                        - Grabs ball in pack, throws on boot, travels 15m to another pack

                        - Follows up into next pack, grabs ball again, throws on boot again, goes out of bounds for throw in

                        - Runs into space and marks by himself and then chips forward 25m

Nothing particularly awesome there - just reasonably sound. This is fairly typical of his games, as I have demonstrated a couple of times this year.

Wow, you really have a lot of time on your hands right? that's not the first time you've offered a play by play breakdown of jude's game either.

how many times would you watch a game of footy?

(i'm not being an ar$e, i'm just wondering.)

Occasionally during the game I flick on the TV and if the game is interesting I'll watch it, whether it's us or not. I just happened to watch the 3rd qtr again just before. The other couple of times when I have reviewed Bolton's game I have taped the game and watched it later. Unfortunately my days of leisure are numbered.

You think any of those particular disposals above are impressive?

You think 6 possessions in a half for one of our prime midfielders is impressive?

Some people are very easily impressed...

                                The media knows squat!
