    Friday night TV Times

Does anyone if Channel Ten are planning to show Friday nights game any earlier?

    Currently Friday nights programming is:

7:30 Everybody loves Raymond (not me)
8:30 Oprahs Hollywood Spectacular (I'd rather see the
    Sydney Swans Spectacular thanks.)
10:45 News and Sports Tonight (we would actually like to see some Sport tonight)
10:50 Friday night AFL (they're almost in danger of having to change the name to
    really early Saturday morning AFL)

Is there anyone supporters that don't have the opportunity to go to the game can lobby?

Although they don't like showing AFL games live into this League loving State, I'm pretty sure the Saints V Swans game will be live.

I wish this week would just hurry up.

Some were knocking Channel 10 last week.

They will be slaughtered by rugby league, etc in the ratings in Sydney this Friday night. I think they deserve nothing but praise for how they have promoted the Swans in the Sydney market. Some will say that they are only fulfilling their contractual obligations, but they have gone way beyond the call and would be very well placed to get AFL rights again IMO.

The game will be shown live on Ch 10 on Friday night. I agree that we should give thanks to Ch 10 for its AFL coverage, not criticism. As much as I hate the fact that night games not involving the Swans are shown so late at night, they have at least kept their promose to commit to showing Swans games live (or slightly delayed) even in prime time. Perhaps some of you have forgotten how dreadful Ch 7 was with its coverage. I remember in one of my first years in Sydney SBS provided AFL coverage 'cause 7 wouldn't. And that was during the Eddleston era when the Swans were getting good crowds. Rarely did Ch7 show Swans games live at night.

You have to wonder how many people do love the league - you seldom hear any complaints from the general public regarding TV coverage of league. Would AFL supporters in NSW put up with only 2 games shown each week, and neither of them live? I don't think so!

This line that gets trotted out continually about NSW being a league state is a furphy. Most people in NSW don't really care about league at all, but for whatever reason they sure as heck know they don't like the AFL.

This article in the SMH today explained TEN's decision....

Box on: Australian football and league go face-to-face

The article says that Nine are not concerned in the slightest

The results will be interesting but I suspect that neither game will lose viewers because they are head to head. None of my mates who follow AFL give two hoots about the League and I'm sure the feeling is mutual.

League will flog the AFL in Sydney.

So what? The real "test of the codes" would be to get the Australia wide ratings and put them against each other.

Unfortunately there is no doubt that the NRL will out rate the AFL on Friday night but congratulations to channel 10 for being prepared to put it live anyway!!

I think we will always fight a losing battle on the ratings front in Sydney but who cares as long as we do get our fair share of AFL coverage and live ones at that!
