    Brown got off

    On a technicality?

Just saw the newsflash on Fox Footy but no new info.

Relevant to the supporters in this forum who expect the Swans to play Brisbane in the Grand Final.

Someone posted about this on BigFooty earlier today at 9:58am

The exact rule Brown is up on. Engaging in rough play against an opponent which is in the circumstances in unreasonable. Pity it also says its in play, not when play has ended. The siren had sounded long before the mellee had started. Therefore its an incorrect charge. Has anyone...

The tribunal ruled a rough play charge could not be sustained as play had stopped before the umpire laid the report.

Field umpire Stephen McBurney tonight confirmed he had laid the charge after the quarter-time siren had sounded.

Brown's defence advocate Sean Carroll argued a rough play charge was inapplicable because play had stopped.

"How can a player be involved in an act of rough play if there's no play taking place?" Carroll asked the tribunal.

AWESOME! Well done Brisbane! Love to see stupid or unwarranted reports dealt with in this way. How stupid does McBurney or the AFL look now? I hate to see our game made softer and softer all the time.

If it ain't bleeding, its Play-On as far as I'm concerned! And yes I'm an umpire, I just hate soft "incidental" free kicks (except in a dirty spiteful match, that is the ONLY place they should appear, and only long enough to gain/keep control).

I am not surprised when Brown got off. The AFL Tribunal should not be so inconsistent. I'll go to the other part of the forum to discuss this.

The fact that he got off wasnt the disappointing thing, it was the fact that he got off from a "Technicality"
