    Melbourne press

What do Sydney have to do to get a mention?

Any coverage of last weeks match was usually at the tail end of some pathetic pro-Carlton diatribe.

At least Sheehan admits that he may have underestimated The Swans chances this year.

It seems like a fate worse than death to give The Swans some positive press down there.

I guess it's because we are a Sydney team and Melbourne people are not interested, just like up here we are not likely to get much coverage of Melbourne teams. We can't expect them to be interested in interstate teams.

Not correct. Melbourne people are interested in all clubs.

This is the home of footy and you better believe people are fanatical about the game. You would not believe the length that people go to dissect games and even a round of matches. To say that people regard themselves as "students of the game" is a gross understatement. Everyone's an expert in Melbourne. it's not just a game but a way of life down here. Some even call themselves "pureists". They have an intimate knowledge and opinions of most clubs.

Every office known to man has a footy tipping competition and many family groups also.

I think the lack of press is purely about the perception of the journos and editors. The was the old saying in Melbourne was that Collingwood sold papers, hence when Peter Daicos was at his prime his faced appeared almost daily.

Old habits die hard and I think they will always have a bias towards Melbourne clubs for the above reason. At the moment the coverage of Nathan Buckley is simply nausiating. When he farts there is a story.

Richo always gets a bake and tonight the topic is how long Frawley will last. The Tigers fans are talking in the same strains as we were about Eade last year.

It's compulsory listening Monday to Thursday 6.00 to 8.00pm on 3aw. Wall to wall footy. Then on Sports 927 6.00am to 9.00am you get a fair serve of footy from Kevin Bartlett, who by the way is our biggest fan in the media right now.

Outside footy season in Melbourne and after the Melbourne Cup everything seems to be at a loose end. it's the only place to be at this time of year.

I must say though this site does fill a void by supplying plenty of gossip and info about the Swans that we don't get down here.

          KB loves us atm.

Interesting that KB is such a huge fan of J Bolton (as am I) considering the bagging he cops here.

Sees a lot of Sydney to KB.

Also a big wrap for Kennelly, clearly believes the Melb media had their collective heads in their rear ends nominating where we'd finish.

Every single pundit in the age picked Freo for a win - except the computer which picked us by 20 points (last week it picked us by over thorty I think - by far the most accurate in the paper!)

Stephen Reilly says Freo by 24.....he also picked Richmond by 12 over the Bulldogs!!! And these guys get paid!!!!!

same as on league teams, all of em picked freo with 7 out of the 20 football 'experts' picking sydney to win on afl.com

richmond beeting the dogs isnt out of the question, the tiges could really expose the doggies for lack of height

i think there is a bigger chance of richmond beeting the dogs than freo beeting us

Most tippers in the media have no idea. Nearly all pick the home side when interstate teams are involved, no matter how the teams are travelling, unless there is an exceptional difference between the teams.
