    davis out

davis is out and mcveigh is to come in.

cant believe that people are saying that bucky will cover the loss of davis.
he isnt exactly going to kick us 5 goals is he? Great player - dont get me wrong, has had a great season but he is not known as a goal kicker.
what do people think of this

    In Bucky we trust.
Or we'll just stick Nicks up forward again to kick a lazy 4

Well thats a bad example as obviously Nick Davis is not going to kick 5 goals either.

McVeigh should put in 1 or two same for Bucky Ball. Hopefully Scheider steps it up again and adds 2-3 goals.

Right there is the key. Not McVeigh. Not Buchanan - not a this stages in their careers. However in Schneider we can trust.

Buchanan doesn't look like the sort of player who will ever kick a big bag at the top level, or for that matter do the matchwinning, freakish things that a Davis in top form could do, but he is fit and improving. McVeigh might be able to add a bit of class around the ground. With any of the designated forwards out the scoring power is down but if it rains this advantage might be negated anyway.

We've won plenty of games this year without Davis kicking 5 goals. Isn't the whole point not to be reliant on any particular player, but to know the team as a whole can get the job done?

It's hardly likely McVeigh will kick a few goals. However, we still have Hall, O'Loughlin, and O'Keefe, plus possible cameos from other players.

After Hall and Micky O kick 7 each I don't care how the others divide up the other 9

Buchanan scored the same amount of goals that Schneider did in a Home final. There is no reason they both don't have the same potential for scoring with Davis out.

McVeigh has a good nose for goal. If you compare him to, say, Ablett (who is surely similar in the role they play). Ablett has had 6 shots on goal and McVeigh has had 12 in a much much more limited role. Add to that with Davis out, McVeigh would likely play on the half-forward line rather than in the midfield. We will see on the day though. (I am just glad McVeigh will be getting some finals experience. It is great that it is at the MCG as well against a Melb team - baptism of fire!)

Don't forget Nicks who scored 4 against the Saints last game we played them.Schneider will get under their guard as he hasn't done much due to his fitness. As I said on another thread I think our forwards will cause too many problems for St Kilda whose defence personnel are not top notch.

Sure he scored the same amount of goals schnieder did last week, but surely schneider has more potential to score more goals, well because he is schnieder! he is a proven goal kicker where as buchanan has not been.

The only reason buchanan has matched schnieder is because he has been underdone, but on a level playing field, Schneider wins hands down!

Sure they will miss the freakish goals that Davis does but O'keefe's been on fire recently and with Hall, Mick and Snides I don't think we're short.

Based on the contribution Davis made against WCE we will not miss him. Therefore any Fit player coming in is obviously a bonus.

Although a fully fit Davis is obviously a loss - but I think he has been fairly well covered for the majority of the season.

When Matthew Nicks plays in the forward line against the Saints, he is usually very effective.

I wouldn't be surprised if Roos uses him as the extra forward to cover for Davis' absence.
