In the past I have been caught with the $6.00 one way when we've got a taxi from the airport then a train into town.
That was at the Collingwood game from memory. There were special temporary cabin things where the ONLY tickets they were selling were the $6 one way fares.

In future always get a return fare. Or if you are only getting a one way fare, get it at the window near the ticket machines.

There are ALWAYS Grey City Rail Nazis at the gates to Olympic Park Station, so ALWAYS buy a ticket.

PS:- I still want to know WHY they didn't have direct trains for the Eagles final. We had to change at Lidcombe and hop onto another platform which was annoying considering it was a final.

I think it was because of Cityrail maintenance on the lines.
We caught a direct train to from Central at 6:30pm. But I did get worried when I saw the signs posted displaying there was maintenance on the sections of the track and we would have to change into buses for sections of the journey. It didn't happen in the end and we had a straight run with a stop at Strathfield.

I'm over in South Sydney, Its either a bus/cab into Central then train in from there. SCG games are a breeze from here.

I take the bus, which is $10 return, but is much quicker for me than catching a train all the way to Central and then back out to Homebush. Plus, we invariably lead the bus in pro-Sydney songs most of the way home, especially if we've won. Sometimes we get a great response, like after the Eagles game. Other times you'd swear we'd lost the game with the passiveness of some of the other passengers.

We caught a direct at 6pm to Homebush. They must have just started later than normal.

Not sure what time they start the direct services normally on special event days - but it would be utter chaos if they relied on the Olympic Sprint from Lidcombe for a crowd that big.

I caught a direct train from Central Platform 15 (country). Bought my $4.60 ticket at the temporary window set up. Got to the platform at 17:25. Train left at 17:40.

In case you didn't know, if you're returning by train from the game, its much cheaper to buy a return ticket, rather than a single each way.
Thx for the tip cruiser. I doubt any of us knew that. I'll try and remember next year.

See I've caught that bus in twice - for the very first game ever, and for the Eagles game. Very first game I got slugged adult price, despite my numerous concession cards, both for westbus AND state transport (it's supposed to be a contracted state transport deal, not a westbus deal so my state card should have worked) and ended up kicking up a stink about that, and the fact that after the first bus, there was a 40 minute wait, in which time another 3 buses should have passed through but mysteriously didn't. I ended up getting a $5 refund but was rather displeased, especially when the returning driver got lost.

Then for the Eagles final all I wanted was a concession ticket one way (in there) - surprise surprise the driver "couldn't work the machine" so I got charged $10 for what SHOULD have been a $2.50 ticket, and the driver had to be directed by the passengers. Am seriously unimpressed with that service - you'd think they'd at least have drivers who know where to go, and ones who can operate the standard ticketing machines.

That's why I just drive in.
If I'm organised enough to get prepaid parking it's sweet.
P1 is so close to the stadium and if the car has more than two people it's not a badly priced option for me considering I live in Kellyville.

Park at Strathfield or Lidcombe (in the parking station opposite the station).

                      Both are free parking.

                      Train is about $2.80 return.

4 in the car that is STILL cheaper than P1 (and save or spend-extra on petrol depending where you're coming from).

Or of course you can catch the train to Concord West, 4 stops between Redfern and Concord west and the tickets are alays cheaper and the Olympic Stadium - From there it is a 20 minute walk.

Coming back you are not supposed to use the train station at Olympic Park (I have with no probs) but I think after hearing that people had to change at Lidcome for the Weagles game I made the correct decision catching the train from Concrd West back to the city.

                          CityRail Responds:

"CityRail has for many years promoted the sale of return tickets to sporting events at Olympic Park. Customer wishing to purchase a single rail ticket after an event can still do so via additional ticket windows selling preprinted, flat fare tickets.

The flat fare tickets were introduce in 2001 to decrease transaction time and keep the large crowds moving from the fixtures onto trains.

The fare charged for the preprinted tickets has been approved by the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal of NSW (IPART) with the last increase from $5.00 to $6.00 occurring in September 2003.

CityRail also has a $2.00 preprinted flat fare ticket to avoid disadvantaging customers who are only travelling one stop to either Strathfield or Lidcombe.

CityRail staff working at Olympic Park station have been reminded of their customer service responsibilities and their requirements to assist customers with their ticketing needs, particularly during major events when large crowds converge on the station.

I trust that this clarifies CityRail's position on this matter. Please call me if I can be of any further assistance."

                          Regards,
