    Mcveigh

Am interested to know other people's opinions regarding him. I see some say he did all right last night, yes he may have had a dip but I am disappointed in him for a second year draftee who who went very early in the draft, I don't think he has done anything yet to suggest he will be a top-liner. Missing that goal was unforgiveable, it should have been a gimme for a class player.

Not really impressed looks like another Fosdike, Mathews, Kirk Buccanan, Schn, not bad in and under small light frame terrible kicking skills.

Probably will stand out in the reserves because of fitness i.e can get to the ball and smaller bodies but jury is out.

Harsh call. He has been played off the bench all season. He is still young. People expect too much of young players too early in their careers. Has the ingredients to be very good. Reember Cressa in his early years. He was labelled a dud for a long time in that his skills were poor and din't get enough of it. How that changed.

At the start of 2004 many here were saying he was too light and would struggle to get a game. That has changed. When he learns to play the midfield he will be OK.

At the end of 2005 we will better placed to make a more reasoned judgement.

Yep - I think we will get a better idea next year. Still a bit light and seems rather nervous and anxious. Skills generally look good, although some ordinary kicking at times. At the end of next season we should have a much better idea as to whether he will be good or not.

You can never get a good idea if a player is good or not until the end of their career. Is Goodes a "good" player? At the very least wait until they are 25/26. McVeigh is 19 years old. He played his first AFL final and did pretty well (better than you can say about some of our more established players). He hasn't had enough time on the field and has, what, 6 players ahead of him in the depth chart.

The trend on this board that you can just watch a player play just one game and tell his future career as a player is disturbing. (Hello, Aaron Rogers?)

Hi Nico I agree with your comments McVeigh probably will be an ok midfielder but thats what I was saying, we have plenty of ok midfielders.

Do we need to sacrifice development for impact i.e. we need an experienced midfielder who can make an immediate impact.

I suppose Im looking at Buccanan as being well ahead of Mcveigh so were does that leave McVeigh if we trade for a midfielder?

Your point is well made though I remember watching Paul Kelly in his first couple of reserves games thinking how did this bloke ever get on the field!!!!

            Cheers'

He's a long way behind where Fosdike, Bolton, Saddington and other notable draftees were at this point of their career. I'm very surprised he played as many games as he did when many others didn't get a go.

Its not easy to come on and off the bench and adjust to the pace of the game. I think I have seen enough glimpses that tell me that he will be a good player. Probably won't really hit his straps until the year after next. Would help if he could bulk a bit more too.

the main thing that i have noticed about him this season is his ability to back himself. i like that quality in young players and he is not afraid to do that. he also seems to be dangerous around goals and given more game time next season , i reckon he'll be a big improver. just needs some confidence and his skills will improve. i just hope that he goes hard in the gym over summer and comes back next season raring to go!

After listening to Roosy on the Radio today he exceeded expectations it was only planned for him to have a taste of senoir football this year but injuries meant he played alot more games than they had planned He also said the same about Ablett and was rapt in the fact Bevan played every game.

So it looks like Ablett,Mcveigh and Bevan got alot more senoir experience than planned which can only be good for the future

Absolutely incorrect. Fosdike and Bolton got very little ground time under Eade in their 2nd season. As a matter of fact not until Roos took over did Bolton get pushed into the midfield for regular full games.

I would say McVeigh is about where those 2 were at 2 years.

The coaching staff would have been more pleased with Maccas develpment than worried. He is on the right track, and will play every game next year if he has no injury worries.

He will take Fosdikes spot as he will not be at the club next year.

and McVeigh was an bottom-aged draftee which both Bolton and Fosdike were NOT.
