    goodes

righto righto he has sore knees (okay a lot more than just two sore knees) but most players can play with pain these days and yes he is a hero for battling on - take nothing away from the bloke.

i can stomach losing - if we tried our very best. I CAN NOT take it when players in the team dont. Goodes FAILED so many times last night (so many that i lost count) to run back and defend his player and what did his player do - KICK GOALS! And what does the opposition kicking goals equal? US LOSING.

if he wasnt up to the game - he should have sat on the bench and given McVeigh more time - god knows he was jumping out of his skin to play and do his best for his team! It makes me sad when players playing in a semi final dont have the determination, mind set, attitude etc to want to win and do his best for his team mates.

if this sport was an individual one i wouldnt care, but its a team sport. T E A M ! No matter whether you are 100 points up or down with only 3 players left standing on the field. You do your best for the team mate standing next to you, to the team mate 100m away and for the fans and supporters in the grand stand and at home. If he cant be bothered or whatever then dont play, no matter how good a player is - if he doesnt play for the team i would rather have him on the bench and play with a player short than have someone like that on the field.

And Goodes if you read this - I hope you feel my disappointment!

Not worth a remotely intelligent reply, because uninelligent people don't understand intelligent comment.

well you give me a reason why he played so bloody poorly?

all night i had to hear the commentators say "what do you do with goodes? he isnt running, hes not defending, hes not working back"

well what type of attitude is that - bloody o'loughlin couldnt walk and he still gave it his all. goodes looked disinterested.

so sorry, maybe goodes is the Messiah or something and no one can comment on his performance. like bloody mortlock in union. if you cant critise that performance then you must be looking through rose-coloured glasses!

              In short:
Goodes played poorly, no question. To say that he did not try is just a bit silly. What was his role last night? What were he and Roos trying to achieve? When has he ever played 'accountable' football? What good would McVeigh have done playing on a bloke 12" taller than him? Got dragged straight to the goal square and had 4 goals kicked on him in a Qtr? Were you at the ground or watching on tele like me? I cannot answer many of these questions because with the TV you cannot see much at all. And don't rely to much on Wallsy's comments. The man is a fool (but better than Huddo). I am sure that Goodes would be pretty disappointed with his game last night. I'd be pretty surprised if he didn't give 100%.
Glad you are not on drugs though...

As I was at the game live, I didn't nor wont see the broadcast. But friends have told me that Walls kept slaming Goodes. Clearly Walls opnion has influenced the thinking of people like vicbourke. At the game, I didn't think Goodes was any worse than a number of other Swans players having very poor games (Hall and O'Keefe for example).

Goodes was poor - didn't mind his man, poor decision making, lairising, etc. At least he is a good one grab player who seems to find space though - much better than virtually anyone in our side. As I repeatedly say, there is only one position for Goodes - follower. Occasionally he can drop forward or back, but as a permanent position he needs to be a ruck/ruck rover around the ground.

BTW - I thought a lot of players looked like their heart really wasn't in it. They didn't seem to be trying at their fullest - not throwing themselves in nor running hard nearly as much as St Kilda.

...and when mixed with others that say "do not take with..." the effects can be quite worthwhile

Walls was way over the top in his personal criticism of Adam Goodes last night.

In fact, one passage of play Goodes ran face first backwards into a pack and got crunched. This was described as courageous by Michael Christian, only to have the praise deflected by Walls onto the St Kilda player. Funny when J Brown goes for marks like that Robert Wall creams his dacks while handing out the platitudes.

That said, Goodesy had an absolute shocker last night and there was plenty of opportunity for the commentators to criticize him, but he wasn't Robinson Crusoe... he had plenty of mates having shockers last night too.

Hopefully they'll fix his knees up and he can stick it up a few people with a great 2005.

so maybe the coaching tactic didnt work then?
i think roosy needs to sit down over the off-season and work out exactly what goodes best position is so we can utilise his skills and vision more effectively. there is no doubt, that when at his best, he is the best man in our side. Yet the last couple of games this year - i dont know - he just didnt seem to be at his best

Strewth how many times does it have to be said. He has 2 crook knees, can't move laterally, yet still runs all day. His game against WCE was handy. Did anyone ever think that the reason he was off his man so often was because he was covering for midfielders who could not keep up with their opponents. It happened time and time again yet he was the one who had the guts to run to contests even with his injuries.

He is bloody brave and those that even suggest he is not a team player need their heads read. A non team player would have missed the rest of the season. Mad he may be, but not a team player, hardly.

At the very least he should get the player most courageous award for 2004 for the comp.
