Maxfield's season

How do you rate it?
There is always plenty of talk on here about Bolton, Goodes, Hall, Davis, Barry, Nicks, Kirk etc but Stewie rarely gets a mention. I think he has lost a bit this year, that he never really looked fit, and never really looked as though he was enjoying it. I think his leadership seems solid but no longer inspirational. He seemed to throw it on the boot and just belt it long too often this year usually because he seemed to have less time. Is Stewie past it? What will next year (his last?) hold for him?

Roos has a couple of tough decisions. I would like to see Maxfield come off the bench as he seems unable to impact a whole game but has some great moments during a game. In saying that there is the issue of giving the younger guys more playing time which is vital to our future sustained success. I think one more year of Maxfield/Williams may put us two more years back in development of young midfielders. Tough call, glad its not mine.

i think stewie should retire ! hes not a burst player (ie off the bench) he doesnt like it

he at least needs to determine wether he has the capability of getting peak fitness back

I think the fact that Maxfield has decided to take to the field for one more seasons means that he feels as if he has the capability of getting back to peak fitness and contributing to the side.

He has never appeared to be a player playing for the sake of it.

im 50/50 on stuey continuing next season. the more i think about it, the more im happy that he'll go on for one more. i think the most disappointing aspect of his season was periods in a game where he went missing.

Nope, can't agree with any of that.

Maxfield was certainly in the best 18 all season, and often among the best in the team. His leadership was excellent. His drive through the centre, and his hardness at the ball, make a major contribution to the Swans' game plan.

I've got no doubt that he'll be an asset to the club again next year.

The idea that the inspiration he provides to the younger players is somehow harming their progress is hard to fathom.

Is there anyone you think isn't in our best team? You seem like Roos - everyone is in our best 22 when fit. I can't recall you saying otherwise about a single player.

I reckon Maxfield has had a fair season. One thing about him is that he is always commited to the ball and always puts his body on the line. I reckon he sees the game out pretty well.

The reason he seems to go missing is that he is rotated more often. Does Willo go missing also? He has plenty of interchange time after about 1.5 Q.

Maxfield seems to have maximum impact at the start of a game then appears to finish games off well.

Maxfield only fault that I can see is his poor delivery when clear. Too often he kicks straight to the oppostion across our HF line. But then again he does get on his own and kicks 4 times further than another blonde haired midfielder.

Maxfield has had an average season, tho' his courage and commitment to getting the ball could not be questioned in recent games.
