Trying to think a bit more like how Roos has the team (or should kind of structure it being a bit more midfield heavy with an extra defender).

(Edit- Argh when I submitted it the structure below got lost, I am sure you get what I am trying to acheive...)

    Backs: L Barry A Schauble P Bevan

Half Back: B Mathews C Bolton J Crouch

    Sweeper: A Goodes

    Centre T Kennelly S Maxfield N Davis

    Attacking: A Buchanan

    Half Forward: R O'Keefe B Hall

    Crumber: A Schneider

    Forward: M O'Loughlin

    On-Ball: S Doyle, J Bolton, B Kirk

    I: J Ball, P Williams, J Saddington , Ablett

Hard to find room for McVeigh, Powell, LRT and Willoughby, they should get to be on the bench at times throughout the season. Nicks comes in at nearly any position if there is an injury. The team really should not have Williams, Schneider AND Buchanan in it (I put Williams on the bench as I believe in youth first but I can't see Maxfield not on the field in 2005).

I can't see any need to get in another midfielder - I am happy to wait for the development of the players we already have. I would love to see a genuine "shut-down" CHB in the team who moves C. Bolton to the half-back and comes on for Mathews. Bevan is a big spark for the team and should be rotated in midfield/groomed at R/R.

I hope we do not trade for Mark McVeigh as we do not need him.

I like that you are stepping outside the normal bounds to reflect new positioning. I was thinking about that while drawing up the team originally.

We have a few players who may be able to step up to that class midfielder role, but not yet and we don't know if, hence why I think we need a new midfielder.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Yeah, Roos makes the lineup a bit of a joke (Goodes listed at CHB starting at CHF, Nicks in the forward pocket starting at HB. Leo Barry at HB but playing at FB). Of course during the game it gets even worse.

I strongly believe the "gun" midfielder is already in our team (I will bet either Buchanan or Davis at this point) we just need to be patient. We will see. The problem is we do not have anyone on our team who can become a top class CHB. I suppose LRT, Powell or Meiklejohn are the only ones who come close to the physical description.

Well if it is to be Davis, he better shed some pounds, and only about half a season of good footy from bucky in the last three years, means that you could well be being a little too hopful there to.

If we are looking to find our elite, midfeild set up me MUST keep the pressure on there , by continuing to recruit young players from the draft who have that kind of potential, or by getting an established one from another team.
It would be a disaster to get content with any part of our team set up right now.

The problem with patience is that by the time some of these younger players are ready to be class midfielders, the older players have peaked.

Davis has the skill, but we'll see if everything else comes together. Buchanan seems quite good at clearing the ball, but doing it consistenty will be another thing entirely.

Powell looks most likely of those in terms of talent, however he doesn't seem to perform, which is a shame. LRT still faces a huge learning curve. I don't think MJ is agile nor skillful enough.

You have got to be kidding. Having Maxfield ahead of Williams. I know Maxfield is gutsy but he doesn't win games like Williams. Look at how Williams played against Judd. That was youth against age and willo clearly won. It has to do with talent and class. Would you prefer a young player with not much talent or an experienced player with talent? You have to look at the whole package.
