'96 PF v Bombers. For the sheer thrill I got from the win and the fact we came from behind, when Kelly switched play, to set up the comeback and the Chapman to Lockett and "that Point".

Not necessarily my best memory, as it has faded somewhat. But remember the 30-goal trifecta in 1987 ...
vs West Coast
vs Essendon
vs Richmond
All @ SCG.
The "200 ... 200" chants by the crowd.
The Tilt's total career goal tally (1).
That bloody "Show Em" song over 30 times each game!

The 96 Grand final is still my most memorable game (and weekend!) - up until the second half the day itself was amazing. It took us an amazing effort to get there due to a number of mishaps regarding having a car to drive down in, and we got there at about 2am Saturday, and had to be at the MCG at 7am, with a 30minute train ride before it, so I was operating on about 2-3hrs sleep!
The day itself was so memorable - just being a part of it was awesome and really got the blood pumping - from the two early games, to the pre-match entertainment, the banners, the anthem...I can recall at 1/4 time, one JF going "we're 3/4 away from holding that premiership cup!" and then I collapsed amongst the floggers sobbing when we lost! That was, of course, after the CS being spat on with half-chewed food by the North yobbos, who then tried to start a brawl with the cops who tried to throw them out.
After the game we were at one of the big train stations (Flinders St or Spencer St or something) and this guy with a huge booming voice started singing Cheer cheer, and gradually most of the people at the station caught on and were singing it with him - it echoed loud, proud and clear despite losing.
Then the next day we were part of the red and white convoy heading back up the Hume.
I can't watch that second half (never have since the game itself), but my other memories of the whole weekend I wouldn't trade for anything!Comment

Ok I'll have a go
96 Prelim
96 Grand Final
Tony Lockett breaking conventrys record v Collingwood.
2003 Final vs Power
The 3 games in 86 when we won by over 100points each game and listening to that damn "give it too em Sydney" song after every goal!!!! but watching the Swanettes was almost worth putting up with it.
Although not a swan moment Paul Roos came out to train my u/16s for a session.
Cheers

Naturally the biggest moments in my Swans-supporting life were the two Sydney-based finals in 96. I actually enjoyed the Hawthorn final as much as the Essendon one, because I thought the footy was of a higher standard because it wasn't played at the surreal breakneck speed the game was played at against the Dons.
I dressed up in full Santa regalia for the first time against Hawthorn. I had a bear mate in Darlo who I visited so I could get changed properly. My NRL team the Raiders were playing next door; I just didn't care any more about the. The Super League war had taken its toll. Now all I could think about were the Swans. I got heaps of laughs as I paraded down Oxford St as Santa, even bumped into one of the Raiders dudes from Canberra who was heading to Central Station Records for some rad music. He knew how I was feeling about rugby league then, and wished me all the best of luck.
The Hawthorn game was a epic struggle. I recall chatting to some Hawks before the game. They were all very emotionally on edge with the club teetering on the brink of amalgamation. Dunstall did his knee, thus reducing the Hawkers forward options. I recall Tony Woods kicking a miraculous goal over his head and me.
I really cringed when ex-Swan Kappler kicked a crucial goal in the last quarter. I thought we were gone. Then from memory Cresswell got a dodgy free-kick in front of goal. He kicked truly and the crowd went mental . We won and the realisation hit me that we only 2 games from the flag. I recall running onto the field like a mad thing with my flag, as just like the Eagles match in 96 the crowd invaded the pitch. I saw big Graeme from Melbourne in the middle of the oval. We embraced and both were in tears. The Swans had won their first final since 1945 from memory. Other memories I recall having were walking past Hawthorn Cheer Squad standing outsie the members area of the SCG wailing their eyes out. That night was very nearly the last match that football club ever played. I tried to talk with them. I asked quite innocently about the merger and what was going on; his eyes welled with tears. Others needed to console him. I let them be in silence. At moments like this you realy don't know what you can say to a guy. I think they respected the fact I didn't rub things in at all.
Yes, I was a blubbering mess after both 96 finals , with THAT moment when I knew we were in the GF in 1996 one of the most highly-charged 2-3 minutes in my life. I had this English guy standing behind me. It was 5 minutes to go and I was pretty sure my Grand Final dream was over. Tears were welling in my eyes, as I had been dreaming of a Grand final constantly for the last 2 weeks whilst I was working a **** job at Coles as a shelf-stocker. He was telling me to not give up and to keep chanting. I pulled myself tigether to at least attempt doing that.
Of course what happened was history, Chapman got the ball and got it to Lockett about 40 m out. I didn't hear the siren at all, so my first reaction was "why are they all cheering?" when it sailed through. Then I saw players leaping around madly; it didn't compute for a second. "Huh, what's this?" I thought.
THEN it hit me, and immediately too. The rush of adrenalin overcame me in an instant. The feeling I had at that very moment will live with me for the rest of my life; I would have to say it was the strongest emotion I have ever felt. I instantly burst into hysterical tears. LesCygnes was the same, as was Jill a row in front of me. I flung my body into the arms of anyone who was in my vicinity. I think we completely snapped a couple of flag poles that night.
The next few minutes were kind of a blirr. I don't think I have cried as hysterically as I did during this time. I recall going back to Easts Leagues with Johnny Mac and Cath Johnstone's Swans-following partner. At some stage we had to talk to Cathy and Bev about getting the banner organised for the GF. Lescygnes kept on breaking down when they were trying to discuss things (dizzy queen!) I remember that English bloke seeing me in the Bondi Room at Easts; I started crying again. Greg Williams was there. A few of us bitter at his departure to Carlton nievely started giving him a spray; he was nearly in tears and left the room really dispondant.
The month of September 1996 was definitely surreal. We nearly got there last year. This year, well enough said.
There is no way you can prepare yourself for the enormity of a Swans GF. The heart just never stops racing.
Yes, I'm bitterly upset at our effort on Friday night. But I still yearn for the AFL flag to be flying from the Town Hall.
I think that we will ONLY become the AFL's new Superclub WHEN we win a flag. Then even the biggest AFL-haters will have no choice but to share in the knowledge that our club has truly and finally made.
The journey starts in November with pre-season training I guess.

There have been plenty. The memory fades however.
In last years final against Port when Cresswell grabbed the front of his jumper at the end and showed the crowd the red and white- fantastic!!!!
I videotaped that game and look at it periodically to get a lift. One of the commentators - Huddo I think - at one stage says "It's a one-sided game alright - only its the wrong side"Comment

Another one. I heard this one on the radio when I was the way to my local amatuer football club here in Perth in 1996. Sam Newman and Rex Hunt were commentating. The hairs were standing on the back of my neck. Rex was screaming "Sydney are absolutely killing them and Paul Roos is a star!".
It was 1996 at Optus oval vs North Melbourne (Kangaroos) and it was Roos' 300th game. I now have the video of that game too and it is a great watch. Sydney were a machine that day and Roos was magnificent. At one point Lockett takes an impossible mark against stern opposition and Dennis Commetti's comment is 'Oh! The man mountain".
Luff played well and a relatively forgotten man, Dixon, Dyson? (can't remember_ - he didn't play in the GF.Comment

also, going back to 1988 at the scg against WCE when the swan-titts appeared. that had me laughing for days.

I was in the MA Noble behind the Eagles Cheer Squad. By the 3rd quarter Kerri-Ann from our CS was buying the poor bastard drinks.
Those 3 matches were just total celebrations.
Definitely NOT like the football we have seen this year under Roos!
You show 'em Sydney!....man that song was great for a laugh.

'88 Carrara, 4 point win to Sydney.
The infamous "we finally won" match against the Dees
1995 win aginst Collingwood to put the Bears into the Finals was awesome. Felt like we had sort of arrived - little did we know what was coming the following year.
"That point" in 1996. Felt like I was in a wonderful dream to be honest. Still something that sends absolute tingles up my spine.
1997 beating North in the wet at the SCG - I just needed some form of petty revenge, and despite the fact that the announer kept saying "World Championship rematch" to the point that I thought we had moved the game to the USA, I enjoyed it
1998 Semi final against St. Kilda, more for plain excitment and the fact Stafford managed a goal from 50 out on an angle is something I will never forget lol.Comment

most memorable event = not a game, but ruda's antics during the game and on the way to the carpark during the West Coast final. was the tall dark haired bloke walking in the wobbly boots who I think it was?
a good night out was had by all codes ... hey ruda. not a question, but a mere observation.
how was the piggie back.
BTW: I've got your shoe.Comment
