Roos' analysis of (and excuses for) the game

He's got a point about the effect of the loss during the 2nd quarter of two of our midfielders. It was after Willo and Matthews went off that St Kilda started blitzing the goals.

He's right in that Willo went off at the 10 min mark and Mathews a little time later I think, and from that point St Kilda dominated. However, this is a reason (and only a partial one at that) not an excuse - we should be able to cover two losses better than that.

The reason these 2 players were sucha loss is that they are the 2 genuine link players in the side. They make space, get on their own and provide genuine run through the midfield. Regardless of the criticism Mathews gets on this site he gets a heck of a lot of loose footy.

Take that aspect out of the game and given that Willo was matched up with Harvey and you have you're answer.

NMW is right though, we do not have the depth in the midfield for others to step up to take that role in a crisis. That is lack of versatility.

Just the same, take Harvey and Del Santo from the Saints midfield in the same circumstances and the result may have been reversed.

Drop out Lappin and Black from Brisbane and see the affect.

Few clubs are able to cover the midfield motor.
