1. Hall/Kirk (i cant decide)
2. J.Bolton
3. Mathews
4. Crouch

One problem is that, with the exception of Hall, the other guys are pretty much battlers. It would be nice if we could get a champion/matchwinner for a captain like most other sides.

This tends to push Hall perhaps into first place. My worry over him is his temper, but perhaps the added responsibility of captaincy will help with that.

doesnt it also mean that he can legally talk to the umpires? that could be interesting. or have they changed that rule - i think a.rocca got fined for talking to the umpires when he was captain at half time

Yeah I thought they'd changed the rule . . . . but I also saw James Hird talking to the umpires at 3/4 time of the Ess Melb final.

Perhaps he was discussing promotional activities?

I think Kirky would be an excellent captain however would love to see Hall get the role.

He is inspirational on the field, no player works harder, andhas the necessary high profile for the Sydney market.

If we want a hard nut who has talent and promotes fear in the opposition (a la Riccuito) - Hall

If we want a tough nut who generates respect for his committment (a la Kelly) - Kirk

Although I admire Kirky, I think Hall would be the better choice... mostly because he IS a match winner, whilst Kirk hasn't yet proven that. Hall has consistently been BOG whilst Kirk always seems to be second or third at best (although almost every game).

For me, it's Kennelly.

Granted, he may be a little young, but I reckon he'd make a brilliant captain. He's got all the qualities required in a captain and then some. Maybe he's not ready yet, but I think by the time Maxfield retires, he will be.

One of the qualities I think that is often overlooked for captaincy is the ability to be the face of the team: media commitments and so forth. Hall is about as eloquent as a potato, so I don't think he's much of a choice. And whilst I think both are reasonably intellegent, neither Kirk nor Barry appeal to me as the kind of footballer who would welcome the extra media attention.

If not Tadhg, then Crouch or Goodes. Both can formulate a coherent sentence in front of a camera and seem to be OK with the attention.

Barry Hall isnt that bad in front of the media, perhaps he's not quite as nice looking as Tadge - but you can understand him, whereas Tadge, well he speaks a little too fast and the accent gets a bit tricky if he gets excited - but I still think he's great! (not wanting to upset anyone here!)
