'Aggressive Trade': What does that mean

Roos has said that they are after a star or two and that trading will be aggressive. What does this mean do you think? Is BBBarry doing the negotiating. Are they going to approach players with big offers before trade period begins, ie poaching. Are they going to make very attractive and probably overly generous offers to other clubs for 'elite' players? Is anyone 'untouchable'? Your thoughts

And Q2 for those who know a lot more about these things than I do. I have heard that this year's draft is a bit light on for talent. Given that we do not have a top 10 pick is the value of our 1st round pick very much at all anyway?

I think it means most of the list will be looked at as potential trades in order to get what Roos believes will give us a real tilt.

You would think our All Australian threesome and a few others are very very safe, but I think some may end up VERY shocked with some names that may come up on offer.

Got a feeling a few fans "love children" will be up for auction come October. Whether they go or not is another question.

      Spot on Damien.

I think we can expect some big names being thrown up at trade time. Good thing too, IMO.

For Roos to be saying that implies there a re a few deals close to being finalised.
(He'd look a bit silly if nothing happened).

M.McVeigh to Sydney seems the most obvious but thats not a big fish.

Aggressive means paying out big dollars and offering up big names IMO.

Micky O'loughlan would be a big offload if the right trade came up. We could cover him IMO.

Absolutely we could, but I'd question his value now. Four years ago, we'd get plenty. Not so much today.

M'OL to Brisbane (to replace Lynch), plus draft pick, S.Black to Sydney. ???

If we were giving them a first rounder, that could be doable. Not like we've done much in the draft of late anyway.

They would never get rid of him. One of the all time greats IMO.

We could offer them Barry Hall and our 1st 2 draft picks and they wouldn't accept. One Brisbane player that may be worth going after is Tim Notting. Offer him the chance to play in the midfield, where isn't going to get much of a chance with the Fab Five in full flight.

And on the SCG, he could bomb goals from the centre circle!

For $800K (double what he's on now), would they have a say ?

Midfielders I'd like from Brisbane would be Black (obviously) and Notting. I'd offer a fair bit for either of them (naturally more for Black).

I think Akermanis's salary was revealed earlier this year and it was a hell of a lot lower than what you expect for a Brownlow medallist and star player of the comp. The Lions will be sticking around for some time yet.

Roos strikes me as a pretty ruthless guy underneath the easygoing exterior.
I think they would take the view to begin with that everyone has a price and everyone can be replaced. Why not? Obviously, some guys you wouldn't want to go, but you can't exclude anyone. He should be telling every player that too. No-one should get comfortable.
