In case you didn't know, our Reserves side was also beaten on the weekend, in the ACT AFL preliminary final: Quenbeyan 79 defeated Sydney 49. On top of Lleyton's thrashing this morning in the US Open Final, its been a lousy weekend for sport.

Swans Reseves beaten in ACT AFL PF
Occupational hazards:
I don't eat animals since discovering this ability. I used to. But one day the lamb I was eating came through to me and ever since then I haven't been able to eat meat. -
Here here regarding that.
Every single team, individual except for Ferrari in the Formula One and the Under 18's St George team in the Sydney AFL got either injured or totally smashed in their respective sports.
If I could just take those three days back and start again I'd greatly appreciate it -
Yes, and Jack is Kieron Jack son of Australian rugby league fullback Garry Jack.Comment

I remember reading an article about Kieron choosing AFL over Rugby League <g> It must be a pre-requisite play so many sports you have to choose whether or not you want to represent us in AFL, RL, Cricket or Union.
If I'm not mistaken Goodrem was a rep this year NSW basketball as well.Comment

Quarter by quarter scores for those interested:
Tigers 2.2 5.9 8.11 11.13 (79)
Swans 3.4 3.6 4.8 6.13 (49)
Dempster, Hunt, McGlone, Meiklejohn, Potter, Rogers, Schmidt, Thewlis, Willoughby, Ericksen, James, Warfe were the regular Swans who played. Interesting to note Earl Shaw, the NSW/ACT ruckman had another hitout with the side.Comment

Given how the reserves were travelling a month ago - looking doubtful to even qualify for the finals - they've done pretty well to get to a PF.
Queanbeyan are a good, strong side and there is no disgrace in the young'uns losing to them.
I think at one stage during the season there were very few actual Swans playing in that team = almost all were top-ups.Comment

As long as we continue playing in sub standard reserve competitions our youngsters will not develop as quickly as they should. But really we have no other option.
I think it is a concern of the club.Swannies for life!Comment

agree with Liz and JS we were hit very hard throughout the year with their own injuries as well as the players being promoted to senior level to cover those injured there.
I didn't expect them to make the finals at one stage, it looked pretty bleak.
Disappointing for Warfe as that's it. All over and it's passed pretty much without comment. Here's my heart and you can break it
I need some release, release, release

I agree that it is a big step up playing in the Canberra comp to playing AFL . But then it did not stop players like Craig Bolton, Hird, Hammil, Blumfield, Allison , Mick Conlan and others and of course the great Jezza. Your argument would have more weight if the Swans dominated the Canberra comp. but they do not. Most of the youngsters playing with the Swans Reserves would not make 1st teams in the VFL , SANFL or WA league. I am sure that Belconnen and Queanbeyan would give Reserve teams from SA and WA a good run for their money.
On balance, I think that the Swans do not have many alternatives to the current arrangements.WMPComment

just a note on both young Earl Shaw and also Trent Goodrem is that they will make it big in footy. Earl (a former Penrith junior and also Penrith senior player) has height on his side to maybe develop as a key position player and Trent has pace and alot of flair.
a side note: both trent and his sister (the devine miss delta) were both representatives in basketball and i also understand that Delta is a very good skier as well.Comment
