    Mark McGough

    From Real Footy today:

Unhappy with the lack of senior opportunities at Collingwood, midfielder Mark McGough is seeking to leave the Magpies.

Although club football operations manager Neil Balme and McGough's management were last night insistent that the 20-year-old was a contracted player for 2005, he might not be at the club next season.

It is believed that McGough, who played 12 matches this season, is dissatisfied after failing to cement a regular senior spot since making a stunning debut in 2002 and winning the Anzac Medal in his second game. It is believed he asked to be traded last week.

But Balme said Collingwood had not spoken to other clubs about McGough, who is on an end-of-season trip in Bali. "I am not saying he is not untradeable, but he is very much a required player and contracted. The truth is, if someone went to Brisbane wanting Michael Voss and the deal was good enough, they would consider it," Balme said.

Can't say I know much about McGough. Any views?

He hasn't been able to cement a spot because he runs like his feet are made of cement. Very slow.

But he gets in and under and averages 19 possessions a game with limited game time at the pies. Yes his skills need heaps of work, but he is still young and he does have something that Luke Ablett doesn't have, his ability to find the pill!!

Worth the risk i say, for a third/fourth rounder or a fringe player such as Sunny

Do we need another one? An ELITE midfilelder is what we are looking for, ELITE. We have a stable full of these types. We do not want a "poor man's Jude Bolton" (the term belongs to BBB and has been boroowed from the other thread on the same topic)

McGough's foot disposal is poor and he is slow. His only advantage is that he's pretty good at getting the ball out packs. The key question is can this ability be harnessed so he can get the ball to the running midfielders.

games at the SCG might suit him as his hands are dynamite. But he needs to be surrounded by some players to feed the ball out to.

I've seen games where he's been pretty good. One was against Geelong (could have been last year) . His first game back this year against Essendon, and again against Port.

Has suffered pretty badly with Ostio Pubis i think, and that could have had something to do with his limited game time and apparent lack of speed. Snowy?

pass on this one, thanks. He wants more opportunities but I cant see him getting any at the Swans, especially considering Stuey and Willo are playing on and we have youngsters in McVeigh, Thewlis, Malceski, Willoughby and Schmidt all looking some senior action next year.

He'll more likely end up part of a rebuilt midfield at Richmond or Hawthorn.
