    Brad Ottens

    From todays The Age online:

And while Zantuck is looking to leave the club, the Tigers are understood to have instructed Brad Ottens' management that the star young ruckman/forward must take a significant pay cut if he wants to remain next season.

Having already achieved a significant pay cut commitment from former all-Australian defender Darren Gaspar, Miller has made it clear that the club wants to retain the out-of-contract Ottens, 24, but would not do so at his current price of an estimated annual $400,000.

IMO, I think that Sydney should move mountains to try to get Ottens. Still quite young with the potential to be a true champion. A ruckman who will add even more potency to our forward line. And as a former Bay boy (Glenelg SANFL club) he might already have mates at the club in Sundqvist and Willoughby (if they remain at Sydney). Possibly one of the most exciting players Sydney could trade for over the next few weeks.
    Occupational hazards:

Glenelg Glenelg, bloody Glenelg! A club where the supporters can't even spell their team's name backward!

Why not we go the whole hog and try and lure Super Carey out of retirement. Or Max Kruse, John Fidge and Wayne "Moose" Henwood? (Any other former Bays play for us?)

Or go the whole hog and have Norfolk Island pines planted all around the SCG!!!!

Ottens could be used as a tall forward. Is he much chop as a ruckman as well? Shouldn't we be targetting a taller key defender or specialist tap ruckman before we go after a guy like him.

Excuse my cynicism, but anyone with the tag "ex-Richmond" I'd be very careful about bringing up here.

Nothing wrong with Ottens rucking ability he has
been hampered by injury at times during his career and it is not much use having a ruckman these days who cant mark around the
          ground.
          cheers Ian

I have been saying for a while we should go after him and would not be supprised to see him in the red and white next year.

He's worth looking at, if available, but certainly not at a heavy cost. I watch a lot of football -- most games each week -- and i have not been overly impressed with Brad. To me, he's a second class ruckman, but is still quite young and has potential if he can stay injury free. Having said that, having a ruckman who could actually direct the ball to our players a bit more often would certainly be an advantage...
Personally, I would prefer us to spend the effort in a search for midfield/onballers, especially with the likes of Stewie and Willow maybe only having a year or two left...
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

deal a sad story that one at his best he could certainly play.

I think Ottens will prove just how good he really is when given the opportunity to play in a decent football team ie Sydney, rather than a rabble ie Richmond.

Ottens is all class . . . he's the kind of player you could build a team round.

Regardless of the financial situation at Richmond, Wallace will move heaven and earth to keep Ottens at Punt Road.

Mind you, if we could snare him without losing too much, he'd push us well into the 'contender' bracket for next year!
