Rogers being delisted after just the one season here puzzles me a bit, but I am not overly suprised by it. As with McGlone, Rogers seemed to be consistently listed in the reserves best.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

If the football department (primarily Ireland and Roos) believe that these guys are not going to feature in a genuine premiership attempt, then there is no reason to keep them on. I have faith that they know what they are doing. After all, Rogers definitely could have stayed on the rookie list for next season if necessary. So be it.

This was a surprise to me as well, especially with McGlone. We have enough talls at the moment with ball, doyle and LRT, so meiklejohn going doesnt surprise me. And we have that beanpole ruckman we took from the draft.

I guess the thing with rogers may be the fact that we have enough forwards. I dont know enough of hunt to comment but McGlone really got me...

From what I saw of McGlone running around in the reserves...

              - he's not overly tall
              - he's still skinny despite 3 years in the AFL system
              - he's not overly quick
              - his disposal skills are OK without being great

Small players need to be either fast, strong or highly skilled (at least in one aspect - ie either a great kick or excellent at extracting the ball and handballing it out) to make it at AFL level. Preferably they need a couple of these attributes. McGlone is probably too much of a vanilla midfielder to ever be anything more than a fringe player at AFL level. There are plenty of these running around who go onto play with distinction in the SANFL or VFL.

I was a little surprised about Scooter. When I've managed to get to see the seconds, he's generally been one of the best and really hasn't been given a fair crack at the As... However, I bow to the wisdom of the football department -- I'm sure they know what they're doing! (I wasn't quite so confident in them though the day I heard that we were getting Bomford and Rhino from the Bummers). From Ireland's quote, it doesn't look like he or any of the others will be redrafted...he seemed to be saying "that's it, fellas, best of luck elsewhere."
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

In regards to Scooter. There was nothing wrong with his attitude. The club just didn't think he would have the opportunity at the swans. He may have got 40+ possessions in the reserves but in those weeks, his opponent was also racking up the same amount. He didn't man up.

Best of luck to those boys. Apart from the pros and cons of his footballing ability Scott seemed like a really nice young bloke. He led the group of '5 and unders' at the Junior clinic this year. He was terrific with the little ones and I hope he forges out a successful career (football or otherwise) somewhere else.

Agree with all of these points. At times his disposal was very, very ordinary.

There were no suprises in the delistings for mine, I hope there are a few more yet.

The thing about Scooter was that it wasn't just the one off 40 possessions, He was BOG! many times and was in the top 5 many more. The kid peaked at the right time (mid season, when there were opportunities), he should have been given at least two weeks.
Aussie rules has always had great players who have defied logic and stood up when they have been given their chance.
The fact that we did not give such a prolific ball winning midfielder 1 shot at a senior game, when the senior midfield was performing so badly means everyone has lost an opportunity.
Good luck Scott. I hope you get picked up by somone else and show every one up to be wrong.

If he had of got some game time in the seniors, he would've been given minimum game time and we would not have been able to judge from a couple of touchs, if he will make the grade.

I'm also very dissappointed to see Scott McGlone delisted. Having only discovered this board a few of months ago and reading postings here supporting his elevation to the A's, I began to look out for him at Reserves games and also in the game results on Mondays. From what I saw of his play, he looked good and showed lots of promise. He was frequently listed as one of, if not the, best on ground. So why delist him? I am worried Sydney may come to regret his loss, like we did with traded Licuria and Garlick who struggled for games at Sydney but shone at their new clubs. Then again, McGlone is only 21yo and may (hopefully) turn into another Kirk, returning one day to the Swans senioir list.

Is anyone aware of any specific reason why he didn't get a decent go in the A's and why he has now been delisted? Wax there an attitude problem? Did he get homesick?

Maybe it gives some credence to the Simmonds/Keating/Everitt/Ottens rumours.
I think quite possibly yes, Erickson had overtaken Miekeljohn in the reserves towards the end of the year but he's still a preseason or three away from the seniors.

Incidentally of the 4 delisted players only Meiklejohn was on the 38 man senior list, even with Warfe's retirement we still need to delist at least one extra player just to enter this years draft.
And another one for every player we recruit from elsewhere.
